Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

They might need them during the Olympics. We shall see.
It feels like they are waiting until after the first rivalry series games to get a better idea of who might actually be lost to the olympics. Alternatively the strategy might be, to paraphrase a former men's coach, to put the hay in the barn early and just hope for the best when their best players are missing.

None of the post-game coverage mentioned Laney at all. I sincerely hope that means that nothing happened that was worth mentioning. She's such an important part of the D. A "bad bruise" would be so much better than another unspecified "lower body injury."
She was sitting on the bench pre-game with Laila and Simms and at least one Gorbatenka, but I didn't happen to see her walking in or out to see how well she was moving etc.

They mostly rolled five D players, including Jones, with an occasional shift to Bickett later on.

If they didn't dress either frosh Gorbatenko, you gotta think they're trying/hoping to redshirt them. I mean, otherwise why not dress one of them as the 'extra' today?

I think they said on the radio that it was a knee. I was hoping for just some bruising.

Another nugget from the radio broadcast was they were recruiting a player from Russia. PB brought it up and Greenie said something to the effect of "I don't know/not sure about that". Either PB was having a Sr. moment or he just spilled the beans on a recruiting coup. He was talking about international recruits and I thought he was going talk about Nela Lopušanová, but the Russian thing came out instead.

Between periods 2 and 3 MJ was not happy with their puck management (were outshot 14-8 for heavens sake). Getting outshot by the purple ladycows is very disturbing considering they will have to fix that under severe duress this weekend. Missing 3 of their top players doesn't help that I'm sure. I have to believe either Simms and/or Edwards will be back this weekend by what I saw Saturday.

John Hart at the Wisconsin State Journal has posted (with Todd's article 10-27-2025) some stunning photos from the Mankato series. Don't skip them!

Maybe things have changed in the new NIL era, but previously, those associated with the program can't speak about specific recruits until they have signed. If it's a case of recruiting or committed but not yet signed, a coach, volunteer or otherwise, shouldn't comment.

Milewski summing up MJ press meeting:

Laila Edwards (lower body, out the last 5 games) and Kirsten Simms (lower body, out the last 2 games) were back in practice. Mark Johnson called that "encouraging."

but ...

Laney Potter (lower body, injured Saturday) and Adéla Šapovalivová (upper body, injured blocking a shot Sunday) will be back "soon," Johnson said. What's soon? "I don't know," he said.

I was not aware that Sapo was having an issue, :-(

-----------------------------

Pulled up the video on Sunday's game. Late in the third period, two minutes of 4-on-4. At the very end of that, 1:20 remaining in the game, she blocks a shot into her midsection that must have hit her right hand or wrist. She immediately drops her stick, shakes off her right glove, and skates to the bench, leaving both behind (play was stopped for a Mankato penalty just as she blocked the shot).

Late in Sunday's game, Shappy blocked a shot with her hand and immediately threw off her glove. Hope it's not too bad.

From what I’ve heard both Simms and Edwards are back but Potter and Adela are out.
I wonder if Potter was injured the moment prior to her falling to the ice (contact with another player? I do not recall) and not when she hit the post with her body. She was sliding right at me she kind of acted like something else had her attention (pain?) and she was oblivious to the net coming at her.

I pulled up the video. Potter is backchecking a Mankato player, reaching from behind, trying to poke the puck away. She more-or-less trips over the back, right leg of the Mankato plyer as the Mankato player cuts to her left. Potter slides from roughly the face-off dot into the post of the goal. She hits the post maybe on her right thigh, but more likely a direct hit on the lateral side of her knee. She skates off on her own, putting essentially the same amount of weight on both skates, and then steps from the ice onto the bench putting weight on first her left foot, then her right, and walks right down the entry way, back towards the locker room, etc.

Guessing at worst an MCL strain/tear, and maybe just a nasty bruise, etc.

Sounds like Potter has a minor MCL sprain and Adela has a small fracture on one of her fingers
