Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2025-2026

Joy Dunne and Emma Peschel both missed their game on Friday, travelling back from National team camp, or whatever they're calling it. They also have four Europeans - three Swedish, one Finn - who might be on their Olympic teams.

-----------

Adding: they are currently dressing ten forwards, with the injury to Malachino keeping her out. If all the players I mentioned above indeed play for their Olympic teams, they would be down to seven forwards; eight if Malachino is back by then.

As is *always* the case, I'd rather be us than them. LOL

Okay... fair enough so it might be two depleted rosters then.

Still bummed tho as I was looking to see best on best that weekend.

Thanks for this... I looked on the Goog machine and the USA Hockey site and other places.

Glad to see O'Brien at least getting a look. Maybe they don't like her two way game idk.

In watching Team USA though, there are times where I think we're lacking in offensive creativity and playmakers.

Wish one of those Rivalry Series games would come to the Kohl Center but realize it likely never will.
The thing about O'Brien to me, and I'm saying this just to ask the questions, not to say she *isn't* worthy, but just what my thinking is being familiar with the pool.

USA's top two centers are Carpenter and Heise. Janecke was the 3C but was moved to wing to get her in the top 6.

I don't think O'Brien supplants any of them. But those roles are where she fits best. It's hard to see her as a lower-line player.

If this is the last run for Carpenter and Coyne, who are at the age where American players don't usually continue, the road probably gets easier for O'Brien whose path is still very much there for 2030. But I have a hard time seeing a potential 2026 omission as any great snub at this very moment. Making the national team is absurdly competitive!

Snub wasn't a great choice of words - I didn't know if she was even getting a look.

Agreed - she's either a first or second line center and probably not a suitable wing.

Why did Abby Roque fall out of grace with the national team?
I know, she was the next big thing, then crickets.

O'B can center any line because she is great at face-offs and is a 200' player. I don't understand how that doesn't translate to a third or fourth line center.

I was able to get video of goal #1 given up, perhaps she was screened on that one. Goal #2 looks worse on video than it did in person, but again there was a D pretty close to the shooter, so a possible screen as well. Goal 3 was off a fantastic point blank save that pulled her off to the left and she had no idea where the puck went, so she stayed put and did not try and get back into the net opening and it was wide open. Horrible D zone from the first shot to the goal, but again they only had 4 players out here but UMD only had 3 players in deep, so UW still had the numeric advantage. Sad.

I don’t think national team is a never ending assignment like it used to be. She had a bit of a hype train, earned it, and then fell off in the pw. In her defense she graduated at a terrible time covid/no league and folks navigated that with varying success. Gabel also comes to mind. Abby took on a role of pest on the national team….not the best on ice version of herself. We’ll see what she does in the pw this year. This is why it’s great we have the pw, she’s still earning 80k plus a year playing hockey.
