UNH- How Far West Do We Go?

Can we just hire Borek?
It does make one wonder how differently things would have played out for the last decade-plus.

Fortunately OR unfortunately, that ship has long ago sailed, when Blue Skies gave Umile the opportunity to pick his own successor, as a quid pro quo to retire.

I still think the biggest coaching "what if" in UNH history is, what if Coach McCloskey was still in the U's good graces by the time Coach Umile's downslide was under way ... would Coach Mac have been offered a chance to switch over, and if so, would he have accepted it? As is stands, we're not likely to ever know.

Other big (and older) historical "what ifs" would include, "what if Bob Kullen never got sick?", and "What if Coach Bjorkman never left for UND?". C'est la vie ...

I misspoke, as NPI now replaces PWR for 2025-2026 NCAA postseason brackets. At the moment, UNH is #1, once again champions of early October.

Looked up NPI. No list. Just an explanation of it.

Looked up NPI. No list. Just an explanation of it.

One of the "Collar Up" boys (a reference from long ago on this forum) over at The Heights has coded an NPI look-alike that matches the changes to PWR now being incorporated into the "official" NCAA-wide NPI rankings not yet released:

"Here's the men's NPI, which will of course be pretty noisy until we get more of a sample size for everyone: https://www.bcinterruption.com/bost...50462/2025-2026-ncaa-mens-hockey-npi-rankings"

Since the PWR rankings the last few years all but mimiced straight RPI once components like "Record vs. TUC teams," Record Over Last 10 Games,"
etc. were eliminated over time, it seems that the NCAA push to adopt a standard ranking across all its various sports has all but succeeded. College Hockey was a pioneering innovator when it chose to use the PWR rankings (whose components were constantly in flux in response to perceived slights to various teams) vs. the dreaded "smoke filled room;" I'd like to think that decision helped pave the way for objective ranking systems to become the norm ...

The boys skated all 60 minutes. They are amateurs so we can’t call it a disaster. Maybe let’s go with missed opportunity to win a game. They are students athletes so grades matter first.
Well that was a total disaster. I realize it's early but UNH needs a new coach and until that happens mediocrity will reign supreme.

Broken wrist is what I heard . 4-6 weeks. But Corky won’t believe it
So ... it turns out norbie (and Emily) were both correct on this, as confirmed by several who observed Marty in person at Merrimack, bright blue cast I'm told.

This is how you develop your credibility as a source over time. Obtain and share inside info which the program isn't choosing to share, for whatever reason, and let real life take its course, proving the accuracy of your information. Not speculation, and not rumor-mongering. It's really a public service. Thanks norbie (and Em!)!

Welp...didnt watch the game as was out and about and relied on info from Grouch and Chuck. Tide turned pretty quickly after that opening score by Felix...and ugh a shorty. Another typical implosion at MC the most "daunting " place to play in alllll the land. 🙄
Bummer about Marty..thats a tough loss so early in the season. Sigh... At least Maine lost
Ha!

My Wife stood with him tonight at the game and he said 6 weeks before his next xray. That’s the week before Thanksgiving. If all is good does he have legs to play at Bentley or do you hold until the next year?

Sometimes people are in the know.

Looks like "Champions of October" isn't on (again) as much as we'd gotten our hopes up last weekend.

"Scotty B" might as well become Scotty Bowman when it comes to bringing the revenge pain against UNH. Admittedly impressive ... or as Snives so often says, "Why cannot we get guys like that for our program?" Oops ...

It was as bad as the Friday game at MSU. Scored early and then meltdown. Bad rebound, bad pass on the PP to the breakaway, and again no shots. Playing on their heels where outlet passes are up off the glass and entries are dump ins with no forecheck to get it.

In MS7s career he is 6-8-2 against MC, with several of the losses in Andover blowouts.

H 4-3
A 2-5-2

MS7 has coached 7 more games and is 2 wins ahead of Scotty B

No forechecking? SHOCKER 🙄

It was ugly. Borek may have exposed the weakness on our back end. Our defenseman were on their heels all night and could not get clean exits. Lavins was missed on the second line. Luckily it is just one game. It was good to see all of the UNH Jersey's!!!

Funny you bring that up as I wondered how much of this was on KC (my nickname for Kyle Chauvette). Not to blame him but a 5-1 score speaks volumes to D issues..lack of fore check (is it just me or is that always a thing fir UNH) .

Things to work on.... Anyway moving forward to the home opener. Hope to be there somewhere along the perimeter as stairs are not my friend right now.

So I guess one of the questions that gets answered next weekend will be, is Chauvette going to be this season's Whale? Or will Whale get his first start??

Given the history...you should know that answer🤣🤣🤣🤣 But guess it depends how the practice week shakes out. MS7 know LIU stole one from Denver (on any given night right?)
