All these people are worth more money than I will ever be in my lifetime, have resumes and experience to easily land another job elsewhere, and they can't be bothered to make a stand?
Sorry, stop making excuses for the gutless cowards.
If you are talking about corporate execs who bend to the pressure, I agree. They are wealthy, safe, and insulated.
If you are talking about career public servants, you don't know what you are talking about. They mostly aren't wealthy (we are, but we're not most people). Their experience is prescribed to the arcana of policy, which is almost meaningless outside government. They're typically with a partner tied in the same way so they can't move easily. They're in a bind.
When Dr. Mrs & I both got DOGED we were wildly fortunate. (1) It was near enough to my anticipated retirement it made sense to just do that, thus alleviating any pressure from me on where to live. (2) We already had another house! We could flee DC without having to burn it all down and start over someplace brand new. Our daughter and her whole family were already here, so the family separation equation was inverted. (3) Dr. Mrs has sufficiently plausible (by a hair) local contacts here that she caught on with AZ state government. (4) Most importantly, we have been planning for something like this ever since 2016. Her doctorate is in History and I rolled out of the womb knowing the score. We always knew this was a possibility and we planned for it for a decade. (5) We are adventuresome. We will actually jump off a cliff to see what that's all about. Most people just aren't built that way.
But we're a unicorn. For others it is gut-wrenching and terrifying. (Even for us, with all our advantages and prescience, it was still horrible and we were both in shock.) So please don't be callous. This isn't Betsy DeVos being fed grapes by her gimp, these are dedicated people who have careers in public service, already reeling from the PTSD of this takeover, seen right up close every second and not from afar on TV, and they come from idealistic academic backgrounds which taught them people for the most part are good and trying to do their best. They were absolutely not up for going over the top at Ypres.
