UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Thanks for posting this. It largely mirrors my thoughts on the season(I didn’t write it.) There is no doubt Maine is going to have a lot more skill but replacing what they had last year as far as work ethic and physicality will be tough. I get square peg in round hole vibes with some of the guys coming in but hopefully they can be appreciated for what they are. The new goalie sounds like a big upgrade over Berzins and with any luck he can be that without unsettling Boija.

I think this is going to be a really interesting and fun year. Every team added a lot of talent and I think we’re in for a lot of competitive, exciting games.

I expect it will be a fun season.
Some bad spells no doubt will come along.
The success of this team at the end of the long season is going to pretty heavily rely on player leadership to get all the new personalities and skills to gel as a team and be proud to be a black bear and just do their part. Maintaining and even getting better at the blue collar culture that really came to the front last year is also critical.
Seeing how these two things make out along with the uptick in overall talent will be both fun and frustrating to watch. Its getting close!

Well that's certainly strange. I understand Providence, but UConn? Also, when was the last time BC was picked 5th?

4th isn’t so bad.

Home ice for the hockey east quarterfinals, likely a trip to TD Garden for HE semis, and a lock for the NCAA playoffs.

If that’s what the coach’s think Maine is then we should be happy.

Alfond has a long way to go with that.
Mostly due to the fan base lack of etiquette or maybe awareness.
Some minimal effort in controlling flow at the four entrance points was recently being attempted..But people still get up whenever they feel like it and head to the concession or bathroom or whatever.
It's nearly impossible to stop the flow of traffic from the people who are already seated, and who suddenly decides that it's time to point Percy (or Priscilla) at the porcelain...

Still, stemming the flow (sorry) from the entrance points makes a world of difference. It really does.

It's no secret that I like the odd beer now and then (sometimes an even number, say 6 or so), but I would never miss a nanosecond of Maine hockey to grab one. My focus is 100% on the game, every time.

Having tried to sound virtuous, any idea what they're charging, and what brews they offer? Asking for a friend.

Imagine the beer selection will be the same as last season.

The cheapest was Bud Light and a couple OBC seltzers at $10. OBC also had a few others (Go Blue, Stein Song, Tubular, Wicked) for $14. Think there was another cider option as well but can't recall the brand.

I just had this pop up as suggested content on YouTube. I was happy to see it was Pat Shea and some new tv show about life of a college hockey player. It’s pretty funny. https://youtu.be/k0nmN_7BGMA?si=ruX2HRYnkZcZPf5v
Just got to a point in episode 3 where he quotes from Miracle On Ice “Well I wanted to win a national championship. That pansy over there cheap shots me. I get tossed out of the game. He steals the ring right off my finger! How would you feel?”. That was likely paying homage to fellow UMaine Blackbear turned actor Mike Mantenuto who played Jack O’Callahan in the movie.

Not to go too far into the weeds, but are any of those brews an imperial porter, an imperial stout or a sour? If so, I'll make the drive.

If I see another beer menu with nothing but IPA's on it, I'll jump off the nearest cliff. A completely over-rated style.

On the bright side, it's hard to imagine people going to the games looking to get tanked on $14 beers. Might work out.

14, 20 dollar beers doesn't matter to some people who just spend whats in the pocket. Whats the saying , instant a**hole just add alcohol, for the 1% or whatever, especially at live sporting events.

Coaches show last night was good. Barr was enthusiastic and positive for the season. Barr is an absolute gem.

To piggy back on your post about the coach’s show…. Barr said the team hasn’t voted for captains yet. I was surprised they didn’t use last nights coaches show as the best way to announce captains. Only about 2 weeks away from exhibition game.

I'm a stout guy myself as well, but sadly none of these are. Mostly a selection of IPAs so kind of hoping they expand the list a bit.

I think Wicked is their blueberry beer but can't recall if it's a sour or not.

It's a fruited ale, so pretty light. I haven't been to the beer garden. Is it all OBC or are other local breweries included? I know Stein Song is Geaghan Brothers.
