UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

I just saw a BDN bit saying that starting at the end of September Maine fans will be able to buy a beer or hard seltzer and take their beverage back to their seat. No alcohol related incidents were reported last seasons at either beer garden at hockey of football. The students are still prohibited taking any beverage up into the balcony.

Hopefully they sell something like the aluminum bottles with caps that can’t spill/dump everywhere. I love the way Alfond is designed but not a great setup for people to drink.

Oh boy great fun.
Some drunk dude missed puking all over me by inches last year when we were in line for the toilets. I guess thats just a near miss incident. Wonder what qualifies as an incident.

This doesnt make any sense..not enough bathrooms? Throw a bottle on the ice like any arena? The income from alcohol sales will far surpass the crying from people worried about the drunks. Every sporting event has it. Embrace it. And the extra income.

The seats are so tight that I think there will be a lot of spillage which will lead to altercations if they hand out plastic cups of beer. In the never ending quest for more revenue it’s worth a shot but not sure how well it will go.

Drew this is actually a good point, not to mention the alcohol abuse by spilling the drink. But Hey there has never been a fight over a spilled drink before...right!?

Not to mention how many hockey etiquette challenged drunks will be getting up to pee during play. I understand the money part, I dislike it just the same

Doesn't the Alfond have ushers enforcing a "no wandering around during live play" policy?

Yeah....right. I also understand and support the making money part but.....the seating area at Alfond is not built for alcohol consumption. The seats are narrow and on top of each other, the aisles are super narrow and there are no cup holders. Interesting times ahead for the fan experience in the stands this winter.

Used to work with a guy who would love to say something knowing it would stir the pot then walk away and watch.
Well done!

As to the alcohol. --- what could go wrong.
Should improve the fan experience. Now we can add the entertainment from this side show.

Neither is Fenway, but just like the old park, people are insistant on renovating rather than rebuilding something similar to a larger scale.

I don’t understand the purpose of the recent ushers. Rotary? Kiwanis? Whomever they are. I see them wearing their jackets and watching the game. If you need assistance to find your seat, they do help. But asking chit-chatters from clogging the aisle or stopping people from going up or down the steps and rows during play…. Nope.

I was being sincere. Mostly.

But, yeah, my local D-3 arena has been strictly enforcing a ban on movement in and around the seats during live play, and it's a beautiful thing. Not sure if the Alfond is set up to do that, though. You kinda need to be able to stem the flow from concourse entrance/exit points, and I haven't been in the building in decades.

They are supposedly supposed to be stopping people from going into sight of people during gameplay

Alfond has a long way to go with that.
Mostly due to the fan base lack of etiquette or maybe awareness.
Some minimal effort in controlling flow at the four entrance points was recently being attempted..But people still get up whenever they feel like it and head to the concession or bathroom or whatever.
We moved our seats to the lower bowl several years ago in anticipation of better times near the end of the Red era, mostly to get away from all the people moving around.
Kids still sort of run loose at times.

They seem to be placing alot of emphasis on the "fan experience" lately, improvements in this regard would help with that, biggly.
