How Russia manipulates useful idiots (and paid supporters) in the media to shape the narrative and influence our decisions.

The United States should not counter Russian cognitive warfare symmetrically. The key to defending against Russian cognitive warfare is doing so at the level of strategic reasoning while resisting the urge to chase Russia's tactical disinformation efforts. Debunking individual false narratives only grapples with the tactical level of Russian cognitive warfare and is insufficient for countering Russian cognitive warfare. The United States and its allies should understand what premises the Kremlin wants us to believe at any given time and over generations, which decisions of ours it is trying to shape, and in support of which aims. The United States and its allies can then defend against Russian cognitive warfare by rejecting the very premises the Kremlin is trying to establish in its effort to have us reason from those premises to conclusions that benefit Russia.

The above is good advice for fighting the entire global Right. Rip out the roots; the branches will die without nourishment. Chasing their lies one at a time merely exhausts us.

This guy isn't an idiot, though. He and his family went through hell to get out of Romania, and he, personally, is very impressive and level-headed. It's scary and demoralizing that he can fall for the RWNJ derp. He can think. He's just been brainwashed somehow.

I am fine with the losers who attacked the capitol being Dumpies. They are weaklings, morons, and cowards. But this guy could be useful. I would want him on our side.

At some point you need to take responsibility for your ignorance. I have friends who fled Russia and luckily have enough brain cells to know they support Ukraine

I am not sure anybody is ever free enough from cognitive bias to take this as an absolutist hard line. Plenty of brilliant lefties in the 30s and 40s bent over for Stalin. Our world is what our prejudices say it is.

It is also hard for a man who speaks English and can barely understand written Latin to say a man is stupid who can speak Romanian, English, Russian, French... and can read and write Latin*.

* Though TBF Latin is essentially a dialect of Romanian.
** Oh damn I just read there is a pissing context and Sardinians claim THEY are the closest to Latin. EARRINGS OFF!!!
