Softball; Because It's Bigger

Well it's Texas and Texas Tech. *say Texas one more time; I dare you* Now that OU is out I don't have to rush to trademark
5-peat.
 
Texas avoids getting hosed by the umpires to win game 1.

Scoreless game in the 5th, Tech runner on first attempts the steal, out by a mile. But on review, umpires call interference because the throw took the Texas shortstop into the base path, barely, and they call interference. Get the second out but next batter hits a bloop single to short right center to score the run.

Bottom of the sixth down 1-0, Texas runner on first. Mia Scott basically stops her swing halfway through on a changeup and bloops an infield single just past the pitcher, runner to third. Cleanup hitter Reese Atwood up, Texas career leader in RBI as a junior. Back to back 20 HR seasons, but 0-fer so far in the World Series. Tech decides to intentionally walk her.

But instead of throwing outside, Tech pitcher throws balls high. Second pitch barely misses the zone, and Scott steals second uncontested. Ball three high, but the next pitch is just like the second, barely out of the zone, chest high. Atwood swings and drives it past the shortstop into left, driving in two.

Tech goes down in the 7th, Texas wins 2-1.

That was a crazy game. Tech was handed the win and then their pitcher could not handle a simple Walk the batter situation and chokes. A pitcher by the way who got a million dollars to transfer to Tech from Stanford.

A million dollars.
 
I really like Canady. I expect her to come back strong in Game 2, and in fact I still think Tech has a very good chance to win this Series. I hope she has a good Game 2.
 
I haven't watched all the games, but from what I have seen the umpiring at the plate has been sketchy to say the least.
 
'Nuther Texas choke job. Defense falls apart just as it has the last two times they've played for the championship.
 
Good thing they scored all those runs early, cause they certainly did their best to give that game away.

A characteristic of Mike White's teams going back to Oregon. Always played tight when they got to the CWS. I don't know if it's a reflection of him personality wise, or what. Players often emulate the demeanor of their coach when things get tough. Maybe he gets super high strung and tense, and the players feel that, and it affects them as well.

Glad that they finally overcame it and got one finally. Liked him as a coach since I first stumbled upon his Oregon team back in 2017, probably in the regionals. Been a fan ever since.

Maybe the Maize and Blue can surprise us and take out Oklahoma this weekend. They put up a good fight against Nebraska at the B1G tourney. Seeing the pure excitement on Conway's (centerfield) face when she robbed a could have been 3 run homer was amazing. Such a great catch.

I remember a few years ago when Minnesota made it to the series finally. Then they lost their coach, and the next hire has been fired, and to be honest I seriously doubt with NIL and everything that's happened they ever will get there again, or even close.

I love softball but it's hard to support the local team when you know they can't ever be competitive.

Minnesota had some really strong Big Ten seasons a few years back. It's a hard sport for the Northern teams that play most games on the road.
