University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

He was recruited by BU. But back then Walsh was coach and Standbrook was the recruiter. They could get top recruits to Maine, Paul Kariya being the crown jewel. But there were loads of other top recruits going to Maine when Walsh was there. Niko was one of my favorite players because of his stick handling in traffic. Brendan Walsh gave him the nickname “Tricky Nicky” because of his dangling. Was such a fun player to watch.
Niko could skate also, I used to go practices quite often, watching him skate the faceoff circles was a thing to behold. He would keep gaining speed, its was unreal the control he had. His mom was fun to talk too also. She was amazed that we thought he was great . Many Favorites over the years he is up there on the list

Im expecting atleast one home UNH game
The Bu game may be another one of those Friday/Sunday tilts with two different opponents
Didn't MAine play at UNH 2 years in a row, not sure why that was?. Seems like we ought to have 2 at home this season to make up for that

I wish there was more video online of this era. Would kill to get a VHS of the 04 quarters comeback against Harvard.

I might have that but not sure as I don't have a way to play one anymore. I used to tape stuff for one of the players families (don't tell the ncaa )

I looked its mostly older stuff on the labels.

I've said it in various threads before but I can digitize old tapes.

If anyone has any VHS they don't mind passing along I would happily start putting together an archive of classic games somewhere like YouTube so they are preserved.

Shoot a DM over and I can send my email/phone to chat more.

Nice to see a local school that Maine hasn't played in a while....actually when was the last time that Maine played the Crusaders???
Yeah.
Id like to see a series with RIT.
They play a hard nose game, the game a couple years ago at Dartmouth was good.
Going to game in rochester would be fun, they have a hearty fan base, nice rink, it would be a great rd trip.

During COVID I think it was, the NCAA was posting a bunch of the old tournament games on FB.

No Bentley this year, huh.

Also do we know why the UMass road series is Thursday/Friday? It isn't to avoid the throngs headed to Amherst for football- they are at Akron on a Tuesday night that week.

I think that weekend is start of basketball season, and Mullins Center is used for basketball(I think). So my guess is a basketball conflict. But the UMass basketball schedule isn’t out yet.

Lowell schedule dropped. Maine plays UML in Portland on December 10th. I don't love conference games in Portland and especially on a weeknight.

EDIT: Looks like Lowell is another team Maine sees 3x next year.

We played at Lowell twice last year. And then this year Lowell gets two more home games and doesn’t have to play at Alfond. Why would Maine agree to that?

I don't understand playing a conference game in Portland regardless of who it is. Those games matter so much and the Alfond is such an advantage. That said Maine is getting BU for 2 at home for the second year in a row. The Hockey East schedule always has quirks like that.

HE schedule seems like it's stuck again; I expected the two home/two road rotation to be swapped this year, but it appears to be the same. It might mean that Maine plays twice in Durham, again.

If the game was scheduled by the league for a Wednesday night....I don't blame them for playing in Portland.
