University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Noticed this earlier, but the Black Bears IG is following Rousseau. All the players they follow are current/former Black Bears.

Feels like only a matter of when not if that commitment is announced.

He had a very good run for Moncton to win the QMJHL championship and then reach third place in the Memorial Cup. He seems composed and quiet in net, which is a great thing. Looking forward to seeing what Alfie can do with him. I really hope this season they give Boija more games off and more to the back up goalie. It would be handy in the event Boija got inured or got the flu, etc... His nickname from him teammates is Rooster.

I posted this in the recruits thread the other day on Poirier. Plenty to like about him. His playing style reminds me of Bradley Nadeau with the deadly one-timer from left face off dot and the decptive toe drag inside out release. He went to prospect camp last summer in Carolina with both Nadeaus. Imagine we will see him play off wing with Josh. Max Scott will likely enjoy having these two buz saws(Nadeau and Poirier) on each side.

Justin Poirier(Baie-Comeau(QMJHL)), 9/4/06, 5’9” 185 lbs, NZ 4.0, 1st RW, small, agile, exceptional skating, elite speed, dynamic offense, hi hockey iq, great awareness, great processing skills, engages in physical battles in the dirty areas, dynamic release, accurate sniper, heavy left dot shot on pp, tenacious and gritty, great vision, a strong first two steps, slippery puck handler, slick passing, strong edges, exceptional anticipation

Scoring highlights, great deceptive release: https://youtu.be/lgSSSnlWEJw?si=YLwhKJmAPsvmGeD7

I made a comment the other day about not knowing how our CHL guys stack up against what the other schools are getting. Does anyone have an idea on class rankings? Maine has the most committed/incoming players from the CHL so it would appear we’re ahead of the curve.

The talent that is incoming actually makes me wonder if this team can be even better than last year. It seems like the whole NCAA is getting more talented but Maine in particular has struck gold.

I think Maine is going to be similar to last season. I think the defense has been upgraded, they will be very mobile breaking puck out and aggressive offensively. The forward lines have had losses but plugged in great replacements that should keep it on par with last season. Seems like a deep team with good speed. Hopefully this team has the work ethic that last year's team had.

I was looking at that today for Hockey East specifically. As far as official commitments go, Providence got Jonathan Fauchon who was the QMJHL scoring leader. That's the biggest fish jumping into the pond. UNH is essentially rebuilt from the CHL. However, Maine has the most draft picks coming in and has the deepest class.

That said BU and BC have been rumored as favorites for some STUDS.

That looks accurate! What happens if they do land Marques? I think they have a legit shot…

First what number will Poirer get? Second, he hits whatever the goalie gives him. Its unreal. Bouncing puck, whatever, goal. Seems to pass pretty well also. Should be fun to watch him go up and down
