Utica University 2024-25 - Retooled and Reloaded

The difference between being #4 and #5 in the NPI is the difference between potentially hosting two NCAA tournament games instead of one, everything is still to play for
In light of the current NPI rankings, do you think that #6 Genny can leap-frog #4 Utica with a win on Saturday?

(I miss the PW in D-3. I could've used the predictor function to answer my own question... But the NCAA had to get its grubby little hands on a perfectly OK metric... Go figger.)

Should Genny win on Saturday, do you think they'd move ahead of Utica?

(Again

Impossible to say for certain but I would be surprised if Geneseo leapfrogged Utica. Utica has a good cushion on them right now.

That was my assumption as well, but the NPI shit is opaque, and probably for a reason...

If the NCAA wanted the best available metric, they would have employed the KRACH, but they were likely worried about having some 'splaining to do once the seeds and sites were trotted-out.

Intentional obfuscation. Not the first time we've seen that lately.

I'm just saying, the potential MCLA vs. Utica Round 1 game would be one of the coolest stories you could write.

A true David vs. Goliath

I guess there's about 7 of us -between both teams- who follow Genny and UU on this board...

Having teed that up, what are everyone's predictions for Saturday?

I'd have to go with UU at The Aud, (and I'd favor Genny at the Ira, similarly.)

Both teams are safely in The Show already, barring total chaos in the idiotic AQ process, but I'm curious as to what you guys think.

It's a coin flip
Yup, but I'm giving UU the slight edge, just by dint of the venue.

Should be a great game, or it might become a blowout in either direction... Both teams' offensives are explosive.

I'm expecting an actual 3,900+ asses-in-the-seats sellout come Saturday, which will be fun, both to see and hear.

Really looking forward to it.

yes hopefully the fans will show at The U and in Oswego....My take is whichever net minder stands on his head or does not have a bad goal get by will take it for his team...also the most disciplined team should have a BIG advantage..

UU will be a genuine sell-out, as in nearly 4,000 actual asses actually seated.

Should help a bit, but I'm not counting my chickens.

Genny is that good,

Well, the UCHC has a brand-new Daddy.

UU played like absolute dog-shit in the 1st in terms of basic D, and who knows why.

I might cite the game-plan, but I don't know what the game-plan was, unless it was "Hang the goalie out to dry as much as you can, via god-awful own-zone moves."

Gotta give major credit to Genny, though. D-3's answer to the Jerry York BC teams. A bunch of water-bugs, and very fun to watch.

Yeah that first period was.....yeah. Loved the fightback in the 2nd but once it was 5-3, it was over

Luckily, besides bragging rights, the game honestly didn't matter as much as it probably should've

We should have Fitchburg next Saturday at 2 at home, which obviously is a favorable matchup for us

Yup, just saw that.

But the road to the NC might well go through Genny.

Very, very dangerous team.

Good luck in the tournament from Geneseo fan. Obviously thought this one was over 10m in, exciting scare in the 2nd. The rink and arena look great. Hope to drive up next year for final 4 and some turning stone 😇

Huge game for Geneseo and they’re looking solid for the tourney. Also just gotta say… why’s Utica’s rink going to NHL levels with the boards…
Only rink in North America with those boards 😂

It's a really cool look, and rumor is they've had people in the NHL looking at them for their arenas, so you might see more of them in the future

Actually 2600 through the turnstile. Box score had 4169. I don't understand why they always inflate the attendance.
