I wonder if mask wearing would be frowned upon either by officials or others.
i may...may...be able to be persuaded if I could be masked.

Do not care. I won't ignore it. As I told Handy...scroll by it if you don't like it.
ignore does nothing.

Suit yourself, but Ignore does everything.

Engaging with a troll strengthens the troll. It has already won. You have given it a platform and thus legitimized it. You have reduced yourself to it and lent it your dignity.

Ignoring the troll renders the troll powerless. It's counter-intuitive but it has been proven for decades across every internet community and on every conceivable subject. Best practice is to withdraw all oxygen.

If a troll spews in the forest and nobody sees it, then that troll does not exist outside its pathetic, wasted life.

Not my experience...but feel free to continue to lecture on your own.

Are you 16? A best practice isn't a lecture. It is, however, a sign that your intuition isn't borne out by empirical reality.

But you be you. I'm sure you are the one to have finally found the golden key to beat trolls at their own game.

I don't care if I beat them. I'm going to use facts...what they do with that is their own business. I do so appreciate being told how I should interact with others here though.
Doesn't make you look like a smug prick at all.
Again Kepler...either scroll by it or put me on ignore.
Either way...shut up.

Michigan will move forward with Fall High School sports...

Michigan seems to be one of the most Bi-polar states with COVID... They do something good, then the Dumpies throw a hissy fit and then the state yields to the temper tantrum.

They're meeting again July 29th where I suspect the brakes will be re-applied. According to a teacher I know, GR area schools plans on in-class to begin while Lansing area is online only until November.

Flo(R)ida with another banner day so far:

11466 cases and 128 deaths.

But hey at least you can ride the tea cups and see Jaws pop out of the water...

I'm actually in a small minority sitting out voluntarily since baseball got started around here... Northwest Indiana began playing around Father's Day and Illinois came back the last weekend in June. I'd say 9 of 10 guys have since gone back on a field (although a few have selected to call pitches from behind the mound instead of home plate for distancing). It's actually been quite eye opening when you see someone who is a non-Dumpy and you believed was intelligent get a confused puppy dog look at you when I say that I'm sitting out.

When it comes to Football, I think there won't be an issue finding people...
I’ve returned but I’m only working our semi-pro/high amateur UPSL division because they’re the only ones to have serious protocols in place. We’ll see on the numbers though, it likely won’t be enough to affect varsity games but combine already dwindling numbers with people sitting out there will be some effect.

Believe me, I've been trying. Seems the update won't let me add people to my block list anymore, so I'm stuck with you! ;-)

Your burden then.
I just don't buy that ignoring works.
Used to have a sig with a Gallagher quote saying "if you ignore ignorance and stupidity, ignorance and stupidity will think it's ok."
So I'll fight em.

That's how you post. Deaths are all that matter to you.
your stats don't prove anything but your agenda.
There is more to this virus than death.
And no one ever said lockdowns eliminate a virus so you can stop that crap right now.
The lockdowns were designed to push the virus down the road so hospitals didn't get overwhelmed...which is what is now happening in states that have reopened.
You're such a Trump humper and it's sad.
I await your next attack.

That may have been why it was started in the first place, but if you see the actual effect of it- it's been pretty effective in keeping the numbers way down- well below nominal numbers just to keep hospitals operating. Some countries have eliminated the virus, and some have kept it much lower than it's nominal transmission rate. Which means that with distancing and masks, there is evidence that the virus can die out- because it's not capable of transmitting at a rate that will blow up.

Lockdowns are very effective at stopping it in it's tracks, and then using distancing and masks, things can slowly open up- while the virus just can't sustain itself.

IMHO, masks were mandated in Michigan because R > 1. Get it less than one, and it's not able to sustain itself.

This is just looking at various locations and countries around the nation and world. I'm sure someone can support this with a real study- just that one can easily conclude that by just looking at what has happened.

BTW, to anyone who thinks that just keeping the spread low enough to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed misses what that means for the health industry. Given how tenuous that the hospitals operate right now, I don't see it possible to run the hospitals at +90% for a really, really long and sustained time.

I forgot one thing that seems to be missed with the line "most everyone will survive". How long it takes to recover.

This is clearly tougher to deal with than the flu- it's much harder on the body, takes a long time to get over, and uses a lot more resources to get through it. Even with a small percentage of the public dealing with it, there will be a significant economic impact if enough people get sick. We've already seen plants being forced to shut down, we know that lack of productivity being sick is hard on the economy, and we know this is worse than the flu even ignoring deaths.

So by not controlling it harshly and quickly, the long term economic impact will certainly be worse than if we did a lock down (which is the economy running at ~70% for a short time). Let alone the impact on certain industries- like tourism- a large amount of tourists (including us) will not be going to Florida to spend money any time soon. Again, I really wonder about the tourist industry in Florida- why their donors have not convinced the government to do a LOT more. And even Delta needs to do more- part of the reason we didn't go to Puerto Rico two weeks ago was the need to stop in Georgia.

The longer this drags on, the worse it is to some really large companies, because a significant part of the population bothers to think and conclude based on data that is being supplied by state governments.

You can still Ignore people. It's actually better now because you don't even know they are posting, they literally disappear completely.

But I would gently recommend (if you can take my lecturing :-) ) not Ignoring FTLT. I block trolls but I don't block those who quote them, that begins an infinite regress. FLTL is not a troll, he (I presume) just has a different technique for dealing with trolls and while it doesn't work that's no reason to deny yourself his other posts.

The distinction is a troll has nothing else to add, he's here to jab and attract attention. 99.9% of the posters here have something good to contribute and FTLT is one of them.

Forced opening of K-12 schools will be a little easier without science and math classes, which are obviously of no value.

Speaking of Math and Data Science.

“The Minnesota covid model projected that every single hospital bed in the entire state would be filled with covid patients in the midst of a dire situation this week. Thankfully, the $1.5 million peer-reviewed model was well off the mark. How far off? See the tracker below“

I’m sure they would have nailed it if they had another $Mill.

or maybe create another government department.

Do people think this Covid 19 will lead to people taking more personal action when it comes to their health?

When seeing that healthy people are statistically having no issues with this virus will that be an incentive for some to do more to improve their health?
