The Countries: Forget it, Burkina Faso, Michigan is still the worst.

Well, no sh-t, you'd also rather have Biden than Bernie.

You are not the target demographic.
Uh, no. Bernie > Biden every day.

Stop assuming dude. Just because I’m not on board with the ex-Stasi, East German communist party doesn’t mean I’m some Third Way neo-liberal, something the SPD/Greens are definitely not as well.

As he's posted more and more since the deal, I think he's going to kill Twitter more and more. Just the tone has been so ugly. Elon Musk is such a cancer.

I had no idea:

In 1986 I was on a flight from Heathrow to Montreal, and sitting next to a guy from Austria. He was traveling to Montreal with a plan to walk to Vancouver for his return flight. He gave himself two weeks. When I suggested skepticism, he assured me he had walked across Austria once.

My response was, “Umm…”

I’ve always wondered what became of that guy.

The Mercator projection has really fucked with our perception of the size of countries.

Right?!

The middle eastern and central asian parts of the world are yuuj and most of us just think it's as wide as Ohio. I mean, just the Caucasus area is enormous. We think of Lake Superior as being unbelievably vast, yet the Caspian Sea dwarfs it.

The world is truly gigantic.

Large in number anyway The Philippines is comprised more more than 7,100 islands, although the total land area is roughly only about 115,000 sq mi two-thirds of which is consumed by just 2 of those islands.

The fate of all lakes.

If you want to see shrinkage, try Baikal.

That is the Aral Sea in your picture there.

I do see there were several articles about Baikal in 2015 where there was concern for shrinking but can't find anything since though I'm sure there is still great concern among the smart folks. Lower than normal snowfall in the mountains around has meant less runoff to fill.
