2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

She is distancing herself because her message is unity and the way people are interpreting his comments is to not to unify. And we are under a week til the Election best to play it down the middle. Its not rocket science. If this was 2 months ago I doubt she would even comment the White House already clarified it anyways. And again, he isn't running for President Hillary was. Its just not the same thing.

____

Your second comment is what she and we need to focus on. Self flagellation is just getting in the way. Ignore the noise, and just amplify the facts.

So you seem to start to agree with me and then.....?

I also agree it's not the same thing (as Hillary) and it could lead to nothing I'd still have rather he not said it at all. I want them hitting HRs every day until the election is over. :)

Yes - pound home the facts until you can't pound them no more.

dx, I don’t think Joe Biden is going to be so senile he won’t put down a coup. Obviously if we got that point again, it’d be whatever it takes to preserve the country, ugly or not. We’d clearly have bigger fish to fry at that point than the rules of decorum. Just not ruling out Michael Bay making a grossly mischaracterized, fact-free movie about Democratic leaders being obscenely incompetent and power hungry.

Well the thing is, this time it will be different anyways. The Coup almost worked because Trump was in the seat of power. If one more thing (out of a litany of events) had broken right it would have worked. Whether it was Mike Pence breaking his oath, or someone getting hung, or the police going nuts and killing lots of people or even if that guy had not grabbed the EVs before the mob broke through into the room...well lets just say we would not be here talking the way we are talking. Trump and his cronies made sure to put the pieces in place it just fell short...

This time is different. Trump isnt CIC, Trump isnt in the WH, his people are not in place and the cops aren't just going to let a bunch of rioters assault them again and try and desecrate the capitol. Its going to take more than Y'all-quida to overthrow the government so unless he has a fuill on army that is willing to back him Caesar Style and occupy all of DC (along with multiple other states) he is not just going to walk in the conquering hero. The only chance he has if he loses is to pray the SC ends The Republic in his name.

I agree it was stupid, I dont agree it is a thing. She made it a 1 day story by addressing it head on. To me that is not worth handwringing over.

Oh you misunderstand, I wasn't calling you out...I only mentioned you because you mentioned him. I wasn't criticizing you or him just saying this guy used Ralston as an example of how hyper-focusing on early voting can lead to anxiety and overanalyzing things the wrong way. Like people who focus on the PWR in December.

And I didn't mean you are paying too much attention, Dowd said guys like Ralston do which is a mistake in his mind. Unless you have the raw data it just doesn't make sense and NC proves that.

Sorry about that didn't mean to make you feel attacked.

No worries Handy. I didn’t take it as an attack. Rest easy knowing I personally take everything Ralston says with a grain of salt, just like I think he does himself lol.

Yeah in 2022 it was 50.4 of the population of the US was female. So early voting is outpacing the actual gender gap based on that limited stat.

I hope that gap stays (56-44). I like the chances for not only Kamala but a couple of other things if that is the case.

At this point nothing is going to change. Anyone upset about Biden's comments were voting for Trump anyway.

it's the calm before the storm. Drink a lot, make plans to move to Europe like I did after he was elected the first time, and get ready for 3-4 days of chaos.

Then get ready for the rest of your life to be political chaos.

FWIW last two election exit polls show voters were 52-48 and 53-47 F-M, so even before women voted more, but still not by 56-44 numbers, if that holds.

If that holds she will win and the Dems will likely take back The House killing any chance of a legislative coup. Hell I would think that puts the odds of holding The Senate pretty good too now that Tester is in a dead heat with Sheehy.

Oh I'm already looking...problem is my parents. Stupid Boomers live forever :p

Just listened to a CLE on judicial retention in Iowa. I get their points of trying to keep politics out of the courts, not basing your vote on a single decision, the fact that retention votes are way better than directly elected judges, etc., but the fact that some of them act as though there's no politics involved already is infuriating. And they talk out of both sides of their mouth: "this process is great, but voting no is worthless since the governor will just appoint another republican, so there's no reason to vote no." I get I'm in the minority among the state bar, but it's not a small one. 35% of the state bar membership said they'll vote no to retain the justice up for retention this year. Not a good look to be disparaging 1/3rd of your membership as worthless.

Also gotta love it was 4 white guys basically saying "don't vote no, it's worthless and sends a bad signal even though I disagree with the abortion decision" and the one woman was like "i'm not telling anyone how to vote, it's their personal decision and it's their right to vote as they choose." One jackass even tried to soften the abortion decision by saying the same justice decided against the governor in an open records case, as though they're equivalent.

Remind me how did you get visa? I much enjoyed ripping around on the s bahn and ice trains last week

Anecdotal, but there was a remarkably notable shift in tone for the Dumpy's at work.

They are all "ready for the election to be over" and are sick of all the Political ads and all the "political BS".

I guess this might be a sign that some of them are ready to accept that the Orange One may not be a shoe in? One can only hope.

Canada may be easier. And for most of us on this board, the weather is pretty similar. Let alone HOCKEY.

I've semi-seriously looked into what it takes to emigrate to Canada in the past. It's only easy if you 1) are young (preferably under 35), 2) speak both English and French, 3) have means of supporting yourself prior to moving, and 4) work in a job that is highly sought after. Having prior ties to Canada through family or education also help but less so than the first four.

My wife and I would be borderline on the age front, though she has some French language skills and could get up to proficiency if needed. Since we'd need to take a few classes to get admitted to the bar up there, we could probably gain some points for temporary residency through an education visa first before going for permanent residency, though that may be offset by the age factor in the interim.

It honestly may be easier to go to Europe as long as you aren't picky about the country.

You’re assuming that the average voter pays attention to political news the way you do, or even I do. I’m willing to bet that nothing popped up on her news filter unless it explicitly stated “Puerto Rico”.

Even IF she only listened to news from Puerto Rico- there's no logical reason to think dumpy will do Puerto Rico well. Maybe she forgot that he withheld money that congress gave to them for Maria aid, and that he then did it again when the earthquakes happened later in the same year. Maybe she forgot that he's full on the crypto boys moving down there and not paying taxes, which just drains the island of resources. Maybe she also forgot that over 2000 people died post Maria because of the power recover was so slow that many people died in hospitals that didn't have power. Or that way more than 17 people died directly from the hurricane (as dumpy liked to point out) because +90% of the island was cut off from the rest of the island due to power and communication outages- which was made worse because the US refuses to help rebuild the infrastructure.

Most certainly she does not see the ads where anyone who has a skin tone and black hair is criminal, drug running, murdering, rapist. Since that paints the picture of EVERYONE that looks like that is bad, not just the illegal immigrants.

More likely, she's just a "good Catholic" so she hates gays and is happy with the abortion being overturned, and that the rest of the island can suffer so that that can happen.

Just a reminder that voting for one issue is not the way to go- it's a system. What are you giving up to get the one thing you want?
