2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

I wish they could watch a little ted lasso and learn to be curious, but Ted is a sensitive man and I’m sure that makes him a cuck.

my dad used to make jokes about gays, etc and it didn’t take much for him to flip, but then again my parents taught me empathy and that others also matter

I mean we all did at some point...but most of us didn't do it out of hate we were just ignorant on what we were saying or feeling. When I actually met a gay person it made things different.

And yes there are no people who vote for Trump who have any empathy. Even for their own family. It's all rage and anger like Ed Norton in American History X. Some dont even know why they hate they just do. It's sad and sick.

They are full of hate and resentment. I’ve not met a trump voter that wasn’t brimming with rage - whether it’s gays, blacks, or women- it’s just hate.

This is true. I've never met a Trump voter who had an ounce of gentleness or artless poise. Even the ones who are loving are some kind of extreme phobic -- stick up the arse stoics or firebreathing hot take boys.

They remind me of hyper-religious people: they're emotionally stunted. They are animated by something sharp poking their insides, and that self-hate comes out as fear of and violence against others.

They have no joy.

Worst example is an ad for House Candidate Nick Begich that plays up here. It has some middle age blonde woman sitting in a kitchen talking about how her son got Xanax from a friend but it was laced with fentanyl and he overdosed and died. She then begins to tearfully and angerly say "I found him dead in his apartment. And it's all the fault of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Mary Peltola opening the border."

Even when they try to seem empathetic, it's just all hate.

So its ok to abuse Xanax...
That was my immediate thought first time I saw that ad.

It’s such a quintessential modern GOP ad. Try to generate empathy on a weird premise then immediately move on to generating anger with nary a solution to be found.

Nooo my dad was way more conservative than
ost people realize. His entire extended family enjoyed their R reputation, some of them held some important county commissioner seats for decades. He was raised to assume D meant bad/socialist and that Rs were fiscally responsible.

it was a reprogramming

To go off of Handy here, is the Xanax (anti-depressant) abuse just a cultural norm up in AK? (along the lines of many people in Appalachia getting Social Security and/or Disability checks)

According to the New York Times the Trump Administration offered gender affirming care for prisoners. I thought only Kamala did that...

No, Alaska is not any different from any other state.

mookie reads this with Kathy bates from the waterboy speaking in his head. ;)

I would try to find it but I’m not ruining my algorithms for you all. I’m not sure if it was an official campaign ad or one from a SuperPAC.

I just saw a clip of Harris on Faux...Holy cow she eviscerated Faux and Trump over his comments about people who speak against him. She took no crap and I loved every bit of it!

I tried to watch it but only made it a couple minutes. They just kept talking over each other.

I had the Fox interview on - got sidetracked at times and didn’t recorded it but from what I saw, Bret asked tough but fair questions and she did pretty well. A bit too much talking over each other but I’m sure she wanted to show that nobody could walk over her. I suspect she did nothing to hurt herself and maybe helped her cause a bit.

Oh I won't watch the whole thing...I have zero interest in it. Liked the clip though because Baier was basically pulling a bait and switch about what he said and she was having none of it.

In other news...Maddow is reporting (and there is evidence to back it up) that in the negotiations with Stormy Daniels over the judgements against her that she has to pay off (they wanted 650k she wanted 620k) which Trump thinks is too low...they are willing to accept that figure if she agrees to not talk publicly about Trump. (NDA) That's right sports fans now they are trying pay her off by laundering the money through a negotiated settlement. Maddow has the documents sent to her lawyers. Stormy said no, settled for 627k without the NDA.

Maddow contacted the Trump campaign and they tried to blame Maddow having the emails on the Iranian Hack.

In reality all she wanted to do was show non Trump voters she isn't a weak socialist so if she did that good. If not she loses nothing.

GA Election Board rules about hand counting ballots was blocked for being too big of a change too close to the election.
