2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

In another projection move, it appears that senate candidate Mike rogers (MI) may have committed voter fraud. His voter registration is at a home that isn’t capable of being lived in, and he voted using that apparently illegal registration. Which is a misdemeanor and felony respectively. I wonder how he is even eligible to run.

So shocking that a(nother) r may have comitted voter fraud.

Harris announced she wants to expand Medicare to cover costs of home care long term meaning they could choose not not have to go to a long term facility. That is pretty big...

Hope that is done in Feb 25. Save a lot of people living at home a lot of money on care. I know some.

Me too. A lot of people my age have parents that are nearing the point that such a change could be a lifesaver. (myself included)

And I totally believe that Silicon Valley Bros think they can control Trump...the Corporatists thought they could control Hitler too.

It's not that they need to control him. It's just that they know, with a combination of a little flattery, and a lot of money thrown Donnie's way,(into his pocket, I mean), he, in return will give them anything they want for as long as they want. As long as the money and flattery keeps coming.

This would be a game changer. I can't really think of a more important policy initiative. And it is doable. There is literally no way the Nazis could oppose it without destroying themselves electorally.

They will find a way.

Yeah that will only work as long as he is making decisions. They are gambling the wrong way because the Heritage Foundation flunkies don't care about any of that and they are going to be in control.

The billionaires are fine with Heritage running the country.

Have you been paying attention to Trump at all the past ten years? You really think anyone's gonna tell him what he should be doing and he's gonna do it? They'll have to deal with him the same way the Techbros will, flattery and handing him money.

You have a weird obsession with that site and their mediocre methodology.

I am not mad about it or anything...just seems weird because you know better. I mean look into some of the polls they use...you would be better off using mooki and the random chicks he talks to in Pennsylvania as an indicator.

I admit though, I just heard an interview with a guy from The Nation which was not kind to them (before and after Silver left) because they fall for the obvious Republican plant polls so I might be testier with them even more than usual ;)

I imagine that if the US government cut spending by even 30%, the world would be plunged almost immediately into a deep global recession.

Depends what you cut...but yeah it would be bad.

BTW I avoided social media all day (outside of clicks Joe's link in the other thread...phucking ahole) and my anxiety level is so far below normal it's great!

Warning: rant about to make landfall. Not directed at you. It is a scream into the wind.

But is there a better one?

I'm using what I have.

I agree, they foul their data with obviously terrible partisan polls, but (1) I'm not sure there are overwhelmingly more R than D BS polls, and (2) they do seem to be lining up with real polling. It does seems like the Dems are ahead in the Rust Belt and the fasc are tied or ahead in the Sun Belt. I have seen no indication that the real voting results will be wildly different -- like Harris takes Wisconsin by 7 or something. So I post to see trending. And because I'm scared and this is my self care (such as it is).

If I used my intuition I would look at how wildly repellent and inept not just the top of the ticket but all of the GOP is and I would think "no way can anybody normal vote for these tools; they're going to lose by 30 everywhere except the Slave States," but I know from experience that nope, 97% of their voters will accept full on Naziism and either ignore it, rationalize it, or glory in it. That is who they are. I have no BS detector anymore -- the smell of BS has been so strong from the Right for 20 years it has destroyed all sensory organs.

I am desperately worried that the reactionary people of our country are going to throw away democracy, irrevocably, not just because of one impotent cowardly demagogue, but because they have never believed in it. What they have believed in, and what gave us stability for 235 years, was the fossilization of their bigotries and superstitions in our laws. Now that there are finally a sufficient number of people voting to change that, they are deliberately choosing their ethnostate over a democratic republic. That is heartbreaking. At the heart of American conservatism is Afrikaner-level apartheid bigotry, and terror of equality, and because I am selfish I am butthurt: that is what I get for believing in regular everyday people as a good socialist and thinking the real problem was freeing them from the oppression of the the economic elites.

Turns out: nope, it's them. They don't care as long as they have a colored neighbor they can kick in the teeth.

I honestly don't think it would matter where it came from. If you took $2 trillion of any kind of spending out, that would be an immediate 2% hit to the global GDP and a 9% hit to ours.

that's too big of a shock to absorb.

Maybe...but I think if you cut it from the military the damage would mostly be contained. But 30% is obviously unrealistic.

(so yeah Elmo would do it)

Not really. Most military funding ends up in the pockets of consumers. All of those bullets and planes are built by normal consumers. And given so many military jobs are done by congress reps to put money in their district- it’s a good way to distribute money. Well, not all that good since a lot ends up with people who never use it.
