UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Had some time so I was able to catch yesterday's practice. There was a pretty heavy emphasis on odd man breaks which was nice to see because that's been a problem for this team in recent games.

Both the PP & PK units have run hot/cold this season so there was a good chunk of the practice dedicated to 5x4/5x3 and PP breakout from their own zone. The units were interesting to note because each stayed with 4F/1D builds but Breen was practicing on the 2nd unit (with Houle/Freel/Scholle/Holt). Top unit looked pretty crisp though (the Nadeaus/Poisson/Scott/Chabrier).

Hard to really get a ton from what I saw of Dalton. Think it was his first day adjusting to the drills so he looked a little tentative. He didn't look out of place at all so hopefully the adjustment to the speed is a quick one for him. Not sure if we'll see him in the lineup out of the gate. Barr did have him getting a little work with what would essentially be the team's 3rd PP & PK units.

Renwick had the orange no contact jersey but his skating looked good. I don't think we've been given a timeline on his return, but he looks like he might be getting close.

Going to need great goaltending this weekend, better than 2 against per game and 2 against on first two shots by lowell.

Important series for Maine that they should probably get no less than 5 points from, considering how they have played this year and how UML has played this year, but any team led by Bazin will play you tough and be stout defensively. Maine will have to earn it, and tI think they can do it.

Wife can’t make it tonight so have an extra ticket if anyone here is looking. Can meet in front of the Alfond before the game.

Edit: ticket spoken for now

Lowell was taking it to Maine along the boards. Just need to come at them with speed and make them defend the middle of the ice.

Also really liking the way Calafiore has looked so far. Plays much bigger than his size and seems like a little pest out there.

Fortunate to be tied after 1. That Nadeau penalty was completely needless.

They have gotten worse with the d break out lately, awful sloppy. If they would settle down and make clean passes with speed things would be in their favor.
Lowell is headhunting #20.

What happened to him at the end of the period?

I think Maine will find a way tonight but another not so great performance, at least so far.

Every team is head hunting Josh lately. Maine looks to be killing a penalty most of this period. Lowell keeping puck in zone with ease
