BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

Yes, on a 4-3 PP because of a horrible call over 3 minutes into OT. Either BU played really poorly or Bentley played better than anyone expected tonight, probably some of both. But if BU has national championship aspirations this season, they will need to play a lot better going forward.

Curious why you thought the penalty in OT was a horrible call. Peterson made a move around his man and was heading toward the net. The Bentley player reaches with his arm, literally around Peterson's midsection, to prevent him from getting past him.

I agree that BU will have to play much better, no doubt about that. But I suspect Bentley will be much better than their projected last in the conference finish.

BUPhd: on that play, there was no call against Kaplan, since he was clearly pushed into the goalie. In fact there was no call at all initially. Then BU challenged for a 5-min penalty against the Bentley player that pulled off Kaplan's helmet during the scrum. They reviewed it and agreed, and BU got a five minute PP out of it.

Was expecting a different score but I'll take a road win. Bentley's new coach came from UML and he had his boys playing a similar defensive style. Credit to them. I'm sure we'll drop in the polls and that is fine - we all know that poles don't matter :-)

Great night for Hockey East - as much as I would prefer that BC lose that game, their win I assume will help us more eventually in the PWR.

The three freshmen d struggled and therefore we went to 4 for the third period. Willander should change that equation.

I am guessing Harvey gets in the next game. The coaches may want to see what all off these guys can do over the first few games, without playing too many of them at once. One positive out if that - I though Amonte looked better than he ever has at BU.
Thanks. I don’t hear well. Flo doesn’t support captioning. And they put the PP timer below tvr clock chyron nearer to Bentley’s score. I didn’t realize til later they used that spot for ALL the PP without indication of who was on the PP.

But then, that’s Flo’s usual shoddy standards

I was on that side of the rink and did not see a Bentley arm around Peterson’s midsection, rather just reaching with his stick but not hooking. But maybe my view was not as good as I thought. Overall I thought that the AHA refs called a good game and they spent almost two minutes right below me reviewing the tape to get Bentley’s 5-minute major correct, which was hard to see exactly what happened in real time from my angle. I am now thinking about changing my entry in the AHA final standings prediction thread, although Bentley always has played better against HEA teams than against AHA teams.

it was the Bentley player’s right arm around the midsection and he held on and pulled Peterson down/back. They showed it on replay in the rink and it was pretty obvious.

Lachance is good and getting down low but it wasn’t clear he can get a stick on the puck even when he has position. If he can start to convert those he could have a huge year.

I know the polls don’t mean much, but we may not drop from 1 this week. After all, we did win. Quinnipiac also lost in OT at home, Michigan spilt with Providence at home. Minnesota beat Bemidji at home , but it was an exhibition game. Denver will probably sweep at Alaska, so they could move up, but I would say a sweep was expected. Denver had no first place votes coming into this week. They will get some this week, but it usually takes some momentum to get enough first place votes to get to 1. So maybe another week at #1 for us?

Two of the three shots that got past Caron in the scrimmage were Lachance redirections. He's pretty good at that skill.

What about that parking situation at Bentley it was a free for all. Rink is nice reminds me of Harvard better top viewing then HAA. Comforting to see Caron solid and he takes up a lot of the net. Where’s Harvey thats disappointing. Grimes was lost what kind of pedigree does he have ? Lachance I liked his role. Hutson must have had the puck on his stick half the game but I would like to see more quick bang bang plays I think he lulls his teammates to sleep sometime. Celebrini was everything I expected and he hustled his butt off to thwart a breakaway after he gave the puck up at the blue line. Kaplan with a couple of dumb plays as expected. Need more out of line #1.

I went by what they had on their website and parked at the Dana (?) athletic center for free. I didn't realize there was a pretty big lot close to the rink. It was about a 10 minute walk to the arena. And none of the signage on campus listed the arena. I had to ask some students where the rink was because my GPS had me going to a different part of the campus. And then once in the rink, no turnstiles or anything. It was kind of poorly marked. I showed my ticket to one of the kids at the Will Call table and she pointed to the staircase that was marked "Students". It was the only way in. And only a couple of kids with scanners. If there was a big crowd, I'm assuming a few people could get in without tickets. They need to do a better job with signage. Other than that, I liked it. It was nice and bright. Best part was the steep pitch in the seating bowl. Worst part was the teeny tiny type on the center ice scoreboard. Hard to see penalties. The two end scoreboards were OK, but the one on the side of the rink I was at (in 107) was blocked by the radio booths and the one at the other end of the rink was too far away for me to see the penalties. #getoffmylawn (I'm so old). Did they even show SOG?

ETA - one other thing I liked was how quickly they announced goals. Why does it take forever for the Agganis PA announcer to announce goals?

Really enjoyed seeing the arena. Very nice facility. The steep seating was great, loved the open concourse above the last row of seats with a full view 360 degrees around the whole bowl and the "shelf" most of the way for standing room attendees (no "luxury boxes" allows for this). Every time I am in an arena like that, I can't help but think how the fan experience at Agganis would be improved by eliminating 2/3 of the "luxury boxes". Parking, ticketing and concessions were a bit of a cluster - but I'd guess that the vast majority of games don't have the crowd that showed up on Saturday. I too ended up parking in the Dana lot - not too bad of a walk. Overall, a great experience.

The team did look rusty - as has been mentioned, Bentley played well and had a lot to do with making it difficult for us. We were buzzing at the end of the 3rd... I thought we were going to get one then.

Looking forward to see this season unfold. I'll likely go up to the Whit on Friday.

I was in 106 and the scoreboard on
that end of the arena had the tiny SOG numbers too and I was looking a lot because I was amazed at how few shots BU had. It was like 8 halfway through the game

The SOGs are shown on the end wall scoreboards, but their SOG numbers were way, way off (top low) on Saturday night. I had not been to a game at Bentley in over three years and do not remember things being so chaotic at the entry, perhaps because substitutes were working over Fall Break? Pep band was less than half the usual size also, I think. Concession food always has been limited and slow except in the lounge area at the entry end, which requires a special ticket, like the VIP parking adjacent to the Arena, which sells out online quickly. That is interesting about google not providing better directions to the Arena, as I have not needed to use being a local. Will mention your observations to some of the powers at be to see how they respond.

Well, UNH tonight. We have played well there in the past and I expect that to continue. UNH will be all amped up for the upset - probably a sellout for opening night against BU. Do they have anyone new (transfers especially) that we should be concerned about?

On the UNH website - it looks like there are plenty of tickets available, so i guessing it won't be a sellout.

Anyone know where in the arena the visiting team typically sits?

107/108 are usually the sections. And while there might be a good crowd, I do no think it will sell out.

Also - the game is at 8:00. I just realized that earlier this week. Which will be good with regards to traffic on a Friday night!
