DIII Coaching Changes

He hasn't telegraphed anything unlike his former counterpart where everyone knew it was coming. What little chatter I heard was around the time that change happened and it is that Coach remains committed to the program for the foreseeable future.

Holy S***, Emily McNamara is leaving the head post at Hamilton after 11 seasons to rejoin her alma mater Middlebury as an assistant.

This is shocking. But it has all the makings of a "head coach in waiting" situation once Bill finally hangs up the skates. I'm stunned.

Looking like this means 23-24 will be Mandigo's final season behind the bench.

I wouldn’t say that’s a definite that this upcoming year will be Bill’s last. He could just be “closer” to retirement.

Also, not for nothing but McNamara’s husband is the Middlebury men’s lacrosse coach. So doing the whole distance thing for a decade probably got old.

Plymouth State has named Ben Chipman, a 2023 5th year grad from the men's team as the women's head coach.

A 5 year defenseman, he is from British Columbia so I don't think he is related to Maine state senator Ben Chipman....

LMFAO, I guess nobody else applied for the job so they gave it to a 25-year-old male who has never coached anything higher than youth hockey before, and no girls' or women's hockey experience at all either as a head coach or assistant coach. None. Zero. Well, the AD sure is showing a high level of care and dedication towards the women's hockey team here. It's at times like this that I feel such tremendous confidence that our sport at the D3 college level is in such great hands administratively. My God, what a joke!

At least they have a coach. Potsdam still doesn't.

I think all of the above can turn to their current assistant coach as at least the interim if not the next permanent HC (assuming they want to stick around).

Hamilton has a very experienced assistant in Kayte Holtz and I would he surprised if she is not the permanent HC, much less the interim. She's going into her 8th or 9th season with the Continentals.

St. Mary's has Kasi Petersen. She's going into her 4th season with SMU and was an assistant at Franklin Pierce for two seasons before that.

Marian's Katie Lindsley is the second least experienced of the top assistants but I think she makes a lot of sense as not only a former Marian player but she is a native of Fon du lac where the school is. I think the fact that she didn't even leave for the 4 years of college shows strong roots in the area.

Olivia Cook is the least experienced at the collegiate level but she has quite a bit of experience at the high school level and she made Cornell's roster back in the early 2010s so she has experience as a high level player. Her bio says she is pursuing a bachelor's at Potsdam so she may have other plans beyond coaching at Potsdam once that's done...

Former King's Head Coach Jordan Ott has been announced as an assistant coach at UCHC rival Chatham.

She is at least the third 22-23 DIII head coach to be a DIII assistant coach for 23-24, joining Emily McNamara and Melissa Lomanto

That move is an odd one. She left King's on her own, right? I had heard she wanted the Potsdam job a few years back but was turned down, so I would have thought there was another opportunity there this year. Instead, she took a step down? Unless it comes with an opportunity to also be involved with the softball team, which I know she also loves.

Everything I've heard is that King's isn't a very enticing place to go. One parent I spoke to about their recruiting experience said they and their daughter loved Ott but the campus just wasn't up to par.

Maybe working there is just as bad and Ott decided to go...

As happens all too often in our sport, the players and parents complain hard enough to administration and blame the coach for their losing ways and administration caves in once again. But don't worry, they hired a guy that never played NCAA hockey and who has never coached women before so that's the answer to their problems. Lmao. I have a feeling the word is out in the real women's coaching community to avoid King's at all costs because it's a sure career killer. I think the AD there must be struggling with not knowing anything about women's hockey and how to fix an unfixable problem there. Certain programs will simply never succeed. That's just the way it is.

By all accounts, Ott was not fired. She left on her own accord.

Maybe Chad Davis is heading to Winona, MN. Just a thought...
Given Chad's reputation and this apparent fiasco at MSOE I think St. Mary's would be making a mistake. Kasi Peterson is an experienced assistant and has been on campus for the past two seasons. I think she would be a great interim and they can open up to more options for a permanent HC in the spring after the 2024 championship weekend.

Ask Elmira how hastily bringing in someone who is accomplished but comes into it looking for his next spot has worked out...
