2021 NCAA Championship: No. 1 Northeastern Huskies vs. No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers

Yeah, not really a factor tonight other than penalties not really being called at all for a while, but looked pretty even there. I just want to click on Wis - Min box scores and have it not look like the worst hockey game ever played with 29-23 shots and just 1 penalty called.

This isn’t nonsensical at all:rolleyes: :)

(S)He means a defensive battle where no penalties were called. Any Mn/Wi game will have chippy play. Whether it gets called or not depends on the referees. But you knew that.

I haven't look at the names in the box score, but the Wisconsin radio guy said they were ECAC refs, FWIW.

You and all these stats you are always throwing out there. Use your eyes to watch the game not analyze box scores.

UW had may more quality chances than NE, NE had numerous almost dangerous plays that just didn't quite materialize. It would have been a long offseason to lose after not converting on a lot of great looks. It also would have been a long offseason if they lost the way the tying goal happened, they were just standing around like they already won when NE scored. Pure brilliance by Watts on the GWG. She took what they gave her. No one gives Blair any credit, all she did was won every critical game she played in for UW.

It seemed like NE's first line was on the ice 50% of the time. Very scary.

As bad as WCHA games are in terms of officiating, this probably prepares the teams well for more physical NCAA play where penalties tend to be more scarce regardless of who's officiating.

Just submitted my final ballot with Wisconsin on top:

1. Wisconsin
2. Northeastern
3. Ohio State
4. Colgate
5. Boston College
6. St. Lawrence
7. Minnesota-Duluth
8. Providence
9. Robert Morris
10. Clarkson

It felt like only a matter of time. NU had that one good chance in OT on an odd-man rush, and never really got a shot. Once that didn't go, it never looked realistic that the Huskies would win.

She was definitely eyeing the top of the net from a severe angle all game; that would have been a nice goal. As this one ended, I'm not sure what the D was trying to do. I don't think coaches teach that: "Bend down and try to turn yourself into a backboard."

Her rebound control was noticeably absent in the FF, but teams weren't able to get to them, thanks to her teammates. Was she voted to the All-Tournament team over Frankel? It's almost always winning goalie, but IMO, it was pretty obvious who was the best goalie in the event.

And without Minnesota anywhere in the top ten?!?!

"Submitted" to whom? I want to be sure to ignore that publication. Somebody take away this guy's vote!

And people say I drink too much thinner......I can't even begin to comment on how delusional this ranking is. Obviously you are just trolling us. That has to be the only explanation. Either way we all need to hit THAT button I guess.

All Tourney team:

Frankel
Ashton Bell and Skylar Fontaine
Mueller, Caitlin Schneider, and McKenna Webster.

Webster was tournament Most Outstanding Player (!)

Obviously transfers will have an impact (more than incoming freshmen, I believe, for the most part) But I think it’s a good bet Wisconsin repeats next year. They are really talented and really deep.

A bit ironically, winning the championship might mean Wisconsin seniors who might otherwise have stuck around will now 'move on'. Drop the mic, so to speak.

Thought you'd like this ballot since it's very pro-WCHA. Everyone here said the committee got it right when they put UMD in when they played so well. I think we must also admit they got it right by leaving Minnesota out, so I did as well.

Also I submit to The Ice Garden. :)

"Everyone" didn't include me.

Minnesota should have been in the field before Duluth. Period, full stop. If you want to argue that Duluth should have been in before Providence, you get no pushback from me.

The thing about decisions like this - and other 'close calls' - is that the outcome tells you *nothing* about what the outcome would have been if the 'other' decision had been made. For all we know, if Minnesota gets in, they could have been the one winning the championship tonight. We. Do. Not. Know. We know the choice made and the outcome it led to. That tells us ZERO about what outcome the other choice would have led to.

No, me thinks it would be a great time for Mark Johnson to retire RIGHT NOW and go out on top as a winner! The other members of the WCHA would appreciate it very much.

This would not just apply to Minnesota but also to other schools who didn't get in I would think.
