2021 NCAA Championship: No. 1 Northeastern Huskies vs. No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers

"Everyone" didn't include me.

Minnesota should have been in the field before Duluth. Period, full stop. If you want to argue that Duluth should have been in before Providence, you get no pushback from me.

The thing about decisions like this - and other 'close calls' - is that the outcome tells you *nothing* about what the outcome would have been if the 'other' decision had been made. For all we know, if Minnesota gets in, they could have been the one winning the championship tonight. We. Do. Not. Know. We know the choice made and the outcome it led to. That tells us ZERO about what outcome the other choice would have led to.

All true but I think even Gopher fans would agree that Minnesota’s goaltending would’ve very likely had them knocked out in the first game (assuming they would’ve started with Colgate).

I sure as heck hope Gopher fans wouldn't agree to that. Especially in a conversation started by a ranking that had the Gophers ranked behind Colgate, Boston College, St. Lawrence, Providence, Robert Morris and Clarkson.

It's preposterous.

This isn't nonsensical at all.

I certainly believe MN deserved to be in the tournament over UMD. I’m referring specifically to a scenario in which MN replaces UMD in the Colgate game. In that one game, Colgate played really well and only Soderberg saved UMD’s bacon. I think Colgate would have beaten MN.

I won’t argue your right to think Colgate would have won! Minnesota was 2-0 vs Duluth, and it’s goaltending was good at times. Minnesota certainly had a good chance to beat Colgate.

The Bulldogs good play didn’t prove the committee made the right choice, but that four WCHA teams should have been in.

This whole controversy just goes to show that the playoff field needs to be expanded. Let's start with that. The lack of resources to the women's game is inexcusable. A bigger playoff field means that the final team standing truly earned its trophy. I see that another thread has been started about how big the playoff tournament should be. Let's see what we can do to push that conversation to the larger public. Push it with some equity groups maybe. Get some parity in treatment for the women with the men. More hockey. More exposure. More reason for young girls and their families to dedicate themselves to our sport.
The other thread is obviously where we should continue the conversation, but we shouldn't stop until the NCAA does our players some justice.

Just submitted my final ballot with Wisconsin on top:

1. Wisconsin
2. Northeastern
3. Ohio State
4. Colgate
5. Boston College
6. St. Lawrence
7. Minnesota-Duluth
8. Providence
9. Robert Morris
10. Clarkson

Getting a little head start on April Fools' Day, are we? Sure, I'll grant it's tempting to fire the salvo. :D (Big Grin Here)

If Offsidesguy is correct with his theorem, combined with most here believing that WCHA rules along with how weak HE is overall, wouldn’t next year’s Championship have a better chance of Northeastern returning to play anyone of 4 WCHA teams?
It seems that all but Fontaine, who is questionable, are also returning to Huntington Ave!

UMD represented themselves well, but I still don’t understand them over Minnesota. Just responding to the “everyone” comment.

I think the strongest case made was to get rid of the minimizing flights rule. What does that even cost the ncaa? What do flights for a team cost? I’m doing some math and the number is shockingly low. I’m almost thinking I made a mistake, ncaa can’t be this terrible (I know).

So now that a former BC player can say "I am an NC$$ Champion in Women's Ice Hockey", has the jinx against the BC team been broken and will we soon see the Eagles win it all. (wink, wink)

Hopefully same for CHA, courtesy of Blair!

The "weak" WCHA had a record of 4-1 in the NCAA tournament against other conferences
Hockey Least had a 2-3 (with a win against the Cha-Cha-Cha )
EZAC had a 0-1 record
Cha-Cha-Cha had a 0-1 record

Poll
1. Sinners
2. Bunnies
3. Yuckeyes
4. Dogs
5. Toothpaste
6. Rodents
7. Pennies
8. beagles
9. Fryerettes
10 Fighting Nurses

Honorable mention...Andover

You know that your numbers are wrong when the left side and right side aren't equal. HEA had three losses, so 2-3. Also, only the last two rounds were officially the FF.

In the tournament, WCHA was 5-2, and 4-1 vs other conferences.
In the FF, WCHA was 2-2, and 1-1 vs other conferences ("other conferences" being Northeastern).

HE was 2-3 overall, 1-1 in FF.
ECAC and CHA both 0-1.

(I think I have that right... it took me a LONG time to get to sleep last night.)

First things first from this Northeastern fan: A tip of the Husky helmet to Wisconsin. They are the National Champions. Period.

And other than labeling that fluky OT GW goal "The Immaculate Deflection," there will be no recriminations from these quarters. The hangover and other after-effects of the uneasy night have finally cleared. The sun did, in fact, come up this morning. So all of us who wear red and black, including our players, have picked ourselves up and are moving on without filling a goodly part of 10 pages of this thread with "my team got screwed" butthurt. Life goes on.
