Biden should also make the point that the previous president was elected partly because ma and pa yahoo out there heard his message about pulling our troops from around the world and ending all these forever wars, and liked the idea. Yeah, doing that causes problems, and situations are gonna be messy, but that's what the American people were clamoring for.

The Taliban looks more legitimate than Y'all Qaeda

China is going to side with the Taliban and recognize them as the legitimate government, all they'll care about is getting rare earth metals. They aren't into "national building". As long as their business interest are safe, they'll all get along fine. And the Taliban knows that China has no problem shipping them all to "reeducation centers" aka concentration camps if they get out of line.

Beijing will turn them into a client state, just like the Norks.

That's a great term. Never heard it before.

Is that yours?

Nope, the concept has been around for eons and a term for it has probably existed in many languages going back to Latin and Ancient Greek, but "client state" was most commonly used in the 20th century to describe former Eastern Bloc nations that were de facto under the control of Moscow.

The US had a few of our own, particularly Pinochet-era Chile and pre-1959 Cuba. Taiwan and South Korea could arguably be considered modern day American client states.

So what did Biden say...I was out for a walk.

Just watched it myself. Boiled down to this:

Here's the choice biden was given:

1. Do what he's doing now
2. Tell the taliban he's cancelling the agreement. Then have to face another several years of active military engagement with the taliban. And perhaps this time the taliban is backed by China and Russia.

so he chose the option that would cost the fewest American lives and resources.

Yep...the option that BTW was also what the American People wanted and both parties wanted. This political hackery going on will hurt him for a while (if this was an election year he would be toast) but by 2024 people will remember this is what we all wanted...the end of The Forever War.

He must read USCHO

Interesting. Thanks.

Edit:

Ouch

Or how about “the United States honors any agreement that they make with other nations and national representatives. The former president agreed with the taliban that the US would pull out and the taliban agreed to do certain things. As my party yelled and objected at the prior administration pulling out of agreements like Paris accords and the Iranian nuclear deal, it would have been disingenuous for me now that I replaced the former president to immediately undo his agreement and break the word of the United States. The United States is more than one man and one party. We are a nation of ideals and we honor our commitments. As the USA was committed to ending this war on negotiated terms, we did.”

Well when he took office he basically said that. He said he didn't like the deal as it was made but unlike the previous regime he would honor the agreements the former president made. He just moved the date.

If he owned it that is the best move. Yeah it sucks in the interim and it gives them mud to sling but so what. The media will play it up (which it seems Nicole Wallace is saying with 95% comment) because of the humanitarian crisis but this is what both sides have wanted.

This makes it doubly important to win the House though...cause of the GOP does they will Impeach him over this. I mean it wont go anywhere but they will waste months on hearings over this just so the Qucumbers send them money.

I already figure this put the risk of the House going GOP in jeopardy (at least in the futures market, TBD in Nov 22)

Agreed for now but who knows. Thing is many of the GOP were running on ending it so an about face won't be helpful. Especially since many of them (like Biggs, Gosar, Greene and Boebert) voted against actions to bring back the interpreters.

The GOP needed more of a gap to be able to distance themselves. As of last week they were begging for this exact action and praising Trump for the deal.

Collapsing passengers, CDC missteps and "public health malpractice": The story of the COVID flight from hell

After passengers on the Costa Luminosa cruise ship fell ill with COVID-19 in March 2020, Americans were flown to Atlanta after reaching Europe. Passengers say what happened next was nothing short of a nightmare.

This story on 60 Minutes on Sunday explains everything you need to know about how the Trump Administration handled Covid. A fucking disaster.

This and what is happening in Afghanistan is an exact result of the defunding of government by Republicans. How defund the police got attached to Democrats is how everything gets attached to Democrats. They message better. They politic better. But they suck at running Government.
