Right? I live very close to the landing path for a small airport here, the one that the MA National Guard uses regularly. So, a constant stream of C130s, helicopters (including those giant Chinooks), even some V22s.

You want to talk about loud. V22s and Chinooks. My god. When they come in formation the ground shakes.
My parents(RIP)lived north of Vegas practically right across the street from Nellis AFB, home of the Thunderbirds. Shoulda heard them screaming overhead. Red Flag-Nellis is an exercise they hold every year with planes from all over the world.

That sounds like something that would be SUPER FUCKING AWESOME for like the first week. And then ... much less so.

Sounds right.

Scrolling through Twitter Ukraine hashtags last night, I stumbled upon a video that made me sick. A father and son, with their dogs, were leaving a conflict area and were stopped by Russian troops with a hail of gunfire (kid was filming from passebger seat). Follow up video showed their corpses, with a trail of blood from the highway, along with two of their dogs, in a ditch. Third dog was sitting next to them confused, just waiting.

(Being serious for a moment, this is significant. Second largest corporation in Russia.)

I wouldn't be shocked if there is pressure already from the corporate side of Russia. Many of the heads on that side were around when things were bare bones after the Cold War ended and built themselves up into a nice little 1%... With the sanctions that have been placed already, I'm sure many of them can see the writing on the wall and don't want to return to the late 80s/early 90s level of wealth.

Putin's public statement just a rehash of his biggest lies. Only thing missing was Mike Pence standing uncomfortably nearby.

Kherson, the city Russia has captured, is no joke. It's the size of Tampa (300,000).

Comparative size (in Millions):

Code:
2.8 Kiev Chicago
1.4 Kharkiv Phoenix
1.0 Dnipro San Antonio
1.0 Donetsk Detroit
1.0 Odessa San Jose
0.8 Zaporizhia San Francisco
0.7 Lviv Jacksonville
0.6 Kryvyi Rih Milwaukee
0.5 Mykolayiv Portland
0.5 Mariupol Cleveland
0.4 Luhansk Kansas City
0.4 Sevastopol Atlanta

KYIV, Ukraine — A member of Ukraine’s delegation in talks with Russia says the parties have reached a tentative agreement to organize safe corridors for civilians to evacuate and for humanitarian supplies to be delivered.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who took part in Thursday’s talks in Belarus near the Polish border, said that Russia and Ukraine reached a preliminary understanding that cease-fires will be observed in areas where the safe corridors are established.

What I read though, was that during Vlad's early years, yes, the oligarchs held a major seat at the political table, and had a lot of influence over what went on in Russia.

But over the years, those seats have been displaced by members of the security apparatus, so Russian big money doesn't hold the political power it once did.

Meaning, Uncle Putie don't have to listen to them if he don't want to.

My impression is Putin started out as the Commissioner with the oligarchs being the Owners, and over the years his connections with the KGB/FSK helped him stock the government with his cronies, whereupon he purged anybody he considered disloyal.

Remarkably similar to how Stalin was able to become an unlimited dictator.
