https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...ods-labor-ban/

[The House of Representatives voted Wednesday night to ban most imports from the Xinjiang region in China over concerns that goods made there used forced labor, as Western nations continue to confront Beijing¢??s crackdown on ethnic minorities in the region.

By an overwhelming 428-1 vote, the House moved to ban all imports from the region in northwest China unless customs officers in the United States are able to determine that the products were not made using forced labor.

Without looking, try to guess the person who voted against this. Keeping in mind, only 7 didn't vote in favor.

Edit:
now I see why republicans supported this:
[The Xinjiang region produces 85 percent of Chinaâ??s cotton, and factories there produce nearly half of the worldâ??s supply of a key ingredient for solar panels. With Xinjiang playing such a major role in global supply chains, business groups and large companies â?? including Apple â?? have lobbied against restrictions on imports from the region.

â??The solar value chain is almost completely contaminated by forced labor,â?Â according to an industry analyst, Johannes Bernreuter.

Fuck Apple. I have no problem with telling them to source their parts and labor elsewhere, even if it means the iPhone 14 will cost $2000+. Their current business model relies entirely upon convincing people who aren't tech savvy that their products are still innovative and aren't just overpriced status symbol garbage.

I was more concerned about 50% of the world's solar. Obviously we can't source green energy with concentration camps. I just don't know what this is going to do to solar.

Apparently he only dies on the Sex Trafficking hill...

I was gonna say MTG but she rails against China all the time so that would be a bit off brand. The Qolorodo High School Dropout?

She couldn’t be bothered to vote. Probably busy at the local gun range with this member’s family.

Huh...I got nothing unless it is Louie Gomer Pyle.

I’ll be honest, I had to cheat. I won’t steal dx’s thunder since he posed the question, but he wasn’t in my top 10 guesses- maybe even top 100. Until recently, he mostly flew under the radar- not because he’s mainstream, since he’s a crazy right-wing nutjob himself- but because MTG and Boebert suck up so much of the oxygen in the room.

Ended up cheating too after you posted this. But based on your clues here I did guess right.

I wouldn't have guessed it was Massie either. But it just fits so well with his unshakable "pro-life" stance.

This poor guy.

Once the most stable economy in Latin America, Chile has one of the world's largest income gaps, with 1% of the population owning 25% of the country's wealth, according to the United Nations. Mr Boric has promised to address this inequality by expanding social rights and reforming Chile's pension and healthcare systems, as well as reducing the work week from 45 to 40 hours, and boosting green investment.

"We know there continues to be justice for the rich, and justice for the poor, and we no longer will permit that the poor keep paying the price of Chile's inequality," he said.

The president-elect also promised to block a controversial proposed mining project which he said would destroy communities and the national environment.
Bury what's left after we get through with him next to Salvador Allende.

I really don't know what we can do about Russia and the former Soviet states. We aren't going to hot war, so why would he even come to the table? Other than to use as a prop in some sort of WWF like diplomatic bout?

edit: like everyone other boomer, all he wants is to recreate his childhood and the rest of us be damned.

He wont come to the table because pretty much everyone in NATO could smoke him and he knows it.

I used to think the best thing we could do to Russia was rebuild Poland to be an equal military power but now they're almost as authoritarian as Putin is. I guess we could try Lithuania.
