Biden talked today about those Americans who are still left. Many of them insisted on bringing extended family- but we were only allowing immediate family.

so republicans have been screaming about us letting too many relatives and rapists in, but now they are ok screaming that Biden abandoned Americans behind (who wanted to bring extended family)

Meanwhile, the GQP are raising fears about how the Afghans rescued may be on watch lists and shouldn't be allowed in.




Now, I love dogs and want to see them all rescued but there are kill shelters filled in the US currently where almost 100 dogs a day are euthanised, and these Faktriots are whining about 100 dogs in Afghanistan?

Of course it fucking was! If anyone knows loss, it’s Joe Biden. It’s building rapport 101- you work to find something in common with the person you’re talking to, and Biden did his best in a terrible circumstance.
The father has a right to grieve, and grieve how he wants. I can’t imagine losing one of my kids. I just find it odd that he made the rounds immediately afterward, with filth like Hannity, and mentioned that Biden looked at his watch a handful of times during the ceremony, indicating Biden somehow didn’t care.

Yeah, obviously I agree with this. It was just so gross the way the media was playing this. I felt nauseous.
 
That was the best speech I've seen Biden give in years. I'm no fan of his (other than desperately hoping he'd help rescue us from... that which came before...) but I was absolutely impressed by the speech.



I don't care what Fox News is saying. Biden did the right thing.

Someone had to rip the band aid off. A 20 year war in Afghanistan amounts to a net loss of 2 trillion dollars. I hope people realize that when they assess what a fucking disaster even bothering with Iraq and Afghanistan was.

The issue with Afghanistan was that we let it scope creep beyond even the most hawkish neocon's wildest masturbatory dreams. Biden said it best yesterday - once we smashed al Qaeda and took out bin Laden, what was our vital national interest? None. At all. The Khyber Pass hasn't been super important since the invention of airplanes. And no, folks, there weren't serious discussions about putting oil pipelines through there either.

I think the biggest problem is over and over and over again we go in and lie and say we're going to leave a Democracy in place before we go. We never do. Fuck trying to do that shit ever again.

Biden did the right thing. And let's not forget: it was the Stumble Baby's idea. It was literally the only good thing that fat orange fascist did his entire existence on this planet, but d-mned if it wasn't a good choice. For all the wrong reasons? Sure. But judge on results. He actually unwound a significant tendril of the Empire. Credit where it's due.

But now keep going. I want to see a year when the US does not murder an innocent civilian anywhere in the world*. That seems improbable but if we can string a few days together, well, even the Mets go on a streak sometimes.

* Indeed I would love to see a world where whenever a state murders an innocent civilian there is a War Crimes trial at the International Court, just as there would be if it was a murder by a citizen of a nation. We have to end the mindset where states are above the law. There is a human law that trumps any state's sovereignty. That is what humanity has been crawling towards since Cleisthenes.

The people have to want Democracy and be willing to fight for it. We pretend if we just go in there and let them vote that is the hard part. (media loves those images of Muslim Women with purple on their fingers!) Setting up elections is the easy part. It isn't like the United States won the Revolutionary War and the next day everything was hunky dory. There has to attempts and failures...ask France.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. We showed them what a world without the Taliban could be but they need to be the ones to decide to fight. (not now, back in 2009) We can't occupy them forever they need to be taking steps to figure out where they are going next.
