Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Agreed he doesn't actually belong there. Just lingering anger from the last few seasons. Still on the side of he shouldn't be coaching Maine anymore and they should look elsewhere but to actually put him on the anti-rushmore is a bit much...
I'd replace Timmay with a Booster who went by the name of Butch

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Mike Latendrese and a booster named Butch belong way before Whitehead

I wouldn't be throwing Mike Latendresse under the bus. There were a lot of screw ups back then, and some people who willfully broke the rules, but I don't put it on the players.

This may be the dumbest thing you have ever posted Brent. And that is going some. :p Sure, he never panned out like we all thought, and hoped, he would, but he was not a bad player and did not hurt the team.

MSU: Comley?

I don't know, I'm a youngin' so I only remember the last few years of Mason and then the Comley years. Sure, he won a NC, but he seemingly ruined the program. Ended the NCAA streak, the CCHA playoff series streak and the CCHA home ice streak. Plus he somehow took a national champion to 10th in the CCHA in three years. I'm surprised Anastos was able to get the team turned around so quickly.

Can't think of too many people, so I'll go inanimate objects.
The post against UNH in the tournament in 2006. t
The boards that created a strange bounce against NoDak in the FF (If I remember that right)
And according to my dad, the roof at Ewigleben in Big Rapids. Apparently a puck went off the roof because it's so low, the ref didn't see it and therefore didn't blow it dead, and it either landed behind the goalie into the net or caused a weird bounce that allowed it to go in. Ferris won that game by 1. I don't think the game had any significance but my dad still talks about it.

If you're presenting Comley's name, I'll have to add Ron Mason AND maybe have the first Rushmore nominee to be in the anti-Rushmore list?

The pane of glass that ended Bob Essenssa's season prematurely in 1985 and MSU's dream season just before the Providence series - after the Spartan juggernaut seemed to be on an arc to a national championship.

Mason
Put the program on a pedestal and then set the program back 30 years by hand-picking his successor. Comley is a fine small-school coach but was wrong for MSU at the wrong time. Mason also left a wake of apathy and didn't do much when season-ticket-holders began jumping ship in earnest post-2004.

Andrew Conboy
A thug throughout his junior years who took shifts off and helped give the program a black eye in 2009 with his ridiculous head-shot ... the one that accompanied the more infamous slashing incident. Left for the Canadiens' farm system, after Comley suspended him, rather than own up and grow up.

I could add Mike Ratchuk, who Left the program high-and-dry with his mid-summer signing after a sophomore season. Make one end-to-end skate that dazzled the crowd, but didn't do much else to raise the program. Important to a graduation-depleted blue line, but a career ECHL player afterwards. But part of me says Ratchuk was just a victim of his own ego and ignorance or Red Berenson, just for the heck of it.

Don't get me wrong: Barreiro is a genuine ***, but that was fantastic.

JDubbs' fake twitter accounts are "comedy" gold as well. https://twitter.com/#!/DubbsTravels https://twitter.com/#!/DRoberts_SP

Good to see that Dubbie is spreading the a-s-s-hattery around and not just spending every waking moment here.

EDIT:

Holy Poop! Just looked at his twitter stuff. I mean, I knew he was dooshy, but, words fail...

He was wishing death upon people.:eek:

Talk about hiding in anonymity.

The beauty of it is that, to the surprise of no one, it all went down because Russo wasn't enough of a homer for JDubbs. This is almost like someone from this board created a spoof JDubbs twitter account. I was giddy listening to Barreiro and reading the tweets (Russo blocked him BTW).

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Comley won one national title in how many years at MSU? Compared to a whopping two by Mason in how many years?

Comley won 1 title w/MSU in 9 seasons.

Mason won 1 title w/MSU in 23 seasons.

I think the difference though, is that Mason left with the most wins of any college coach, and had taken MSU to 9 consecutive NCAA Tournaments (and 19 trips in the previous 21 seasons). Further, Mason had led the Spartans to 5 trips to the Frozen Four, while Comley only managed 1 trip, 4 NCAA appearances, and had losing seasons 2 of his last 3 years in East Lansing.

Given that, I still find it ridiculous that Comley would be mentioned on MSU's Anti-Mount Rushmore list.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Former AD Rick Yeo should probably also be nominated for Tech. He hired Watters instead of Pearson in 1996, supposedly just because Watters had played in the NHL. *facepalm*

As long as we're calling out players, add Eric Kattelus to the list. Such a waste of potential.

How about Phil Axtell? At least I think that was his name.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Bailey had little to do with Western's hockey problems. She was a dud for sure though. Jim Culhane almost killed the program on his own and Kathy Boreguard kept him on board.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Can I just put Mack Portera's fat face on there four times? I mean, the son-of-a-biscuit dang near killed our program.

GFM <-- can think of one coach and a player or two to put on there if need be, although I may have to create a second account to post it without catching flack.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

I hate to say it, but Trent Palm. Guy was a turrible defenseman who always let people skate right around him, then he'd go in the corner and hit like a pillow. I know he got hurt, and came back for a year with a medical redshirt, but he was bad before he got hurt and was even worse after. I liked the effort, but everytime I saw someone skating down 1-on-1 I knew it was about to be a breakaway.

Dan Kronik: Played decent for us, whined about playing time, transfered to St. Cloud and then turns on beast mode for every game against the Bulldogs. ****** that guy.

Also, can we nominate Chancellors? :D

I say for this nomination you should have to pick someone more hurtful to a program than a bad player.

I would like to nominate former Chancellor Martin. She clearly loved the women's team moe than the men's. While it is nice to have a dominate women's program they had to do but losing money on European players and an overpaid coach. Coincidence the team won their first title after she left? I'd just say yes :D

You couldn't afford the granite required to carve his chin.
