Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

John Hill HAS to be on Minnesota's. In fact, just make all four heads his :p

I remember some years I would have put Buetow on here.

And I am sorry, but Fischer greatly underperformed to his expectations, but he didn't drag the program down. He was a decent D-man who made some errors that overshadowed some of his better play, and never came close to the star people were expecting. Not a player who dragged the whole team down, like some on the anti-Fischer bandwagon claim. Nowhere near the impact of Hill.

MSU: Comley?

I don't know, I'm a youngin' so I only remember the last few years of Mason and then the Comley years. Sure, he won a NC, but he seemingly ruined the program. Ended the NCAA streak, the CCHA playoff series streak and the CCHA home ice streak. Plus he somehow took a national champion to 10th in the CCHA in three years. I'm surprised Anastos was able to get the team turned around so quickly.

Can't think of too many people, so I'll go inanimate objects.
The post against UNH in the tournament in 2006. t
The boards that created a strange bounce against NoDak in the FF (If I remember that right)
And according to my dad, the roof at Ewigleben in Big Rapids. Apparently a puck went off the roof because it's so low, the ref didn't see it and therefore didn't blow it dead, and it either landed behind the goalie into the net or caused a weird bounce that allowed it to go in. Ferris won that game by 1. I don't think the game had any significance but my dad still talks about it.

I was unaware this included coaches, but since it does, Hill is undoubtedly my first choice as well. That son of a ***** can rot in hell.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Maine: Whitehead, Blake James, Skype Goalie Coaching, Poke Check only defense.

Re: Your program's Anti-Mount Rushmore

Tim Watters (as a coach) Some would probably add Jamie Russell too, and I can't really blame them.
Eh, Jamie was bad, but not as bad as some.
EDIT: and shouldn't this thread be entitled "Your Program's Marianas Trench"?

I would have a hard time putting any coach or player on the list who at least tried but may have lacked success. I didn't get to know Watters too well when he was the boss, but I think you would be hard pressed to find more than a handful of folks who said Russell wasn't trying hard or putting in the necessary effort. For any coach since MacInnes it has been an uphill battle. Recently Tech fans discussed the fact that we now have multiple NHL draft picks on the team at the same time and that the last time that happend was the 1990s.
A lot of teams we play have multiple NHL draft picks in each recruiting class. It's a chicken and egg kind of story... Does talent bring the coach greatness or does a great coach get the talent? It doesn't help that the longest tenured coach since JM was Russell at 8 years. The other 22 years included SEVEN more coaches. With an average of just over 3 years, that's not even long enough to get a team of your own recruits on board, much less establish your style of play.

But anyway, back on topic... I think the folks I put at the top of my list would be quiters, one-n-dones and no-shows such as Casey Pierro-Zabotel (no-show), Jake Hauswirth (no-show), Brady Greco (1-n-done), Kyle Ferguson (fight with coach), Rob Rankin (1-n-done), Glenn Merkosky (1-n-done), etc.

You're nucking futs if you think Whitehead belongs on this list.

Agreed he doesn't actually belong there. Just lingering anger from the last few seasons. Still on the side of he shouldn't be coaching Maine anymore and they should look elsewhere but to actually put him on the anti-rushmore is a bit much...
