Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I knew it was two different teams, but the eye searing color is similar. I remember Santa climbing out of the snow with Nibali last year and knowing it was him because he was glowing.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Nah, same team, just different sponsor. It just bugs me, because one of my favorite places to buy cycling gear from has the new Vini Fantini/Nippo kit, and under past years kit also has the Vini Fantini/Farnese Vini kit as well. When really, they should be listed as the past years of Neri Sottoli/Yellow Fluo. Just pizzes me off because of how the Farnese company abandoined them and left them high and dry without a sponsor when it was pretty much their fault DiLuca was even on the team. The team manager didn't want him, but the Farnese chairman insisted, and since he was paying the bills..........................

And then the team manager took all the crap for running a team full of dopers. And Farnese scoots away and up and sponsors another team.

As for Yellow Fluo memories, this one has to be right up there. Rabbotini part of a two man break, and then on his own for over 100 miles of the race, only to get caught by Rodriguez in the final 400 meters.

Ack. The Phil and Paul commentary is painful. They just spent 10 minutes talking about how Purito being dropped is a surprise and devistating to his GC chances then proceed to mention that its OK that Horner got dropped because he's recovering from injury. ITS THE SAME WITH PURITO!

Then there was the NBCSC add from a Brit perspective that made Froome seem like the 2nd coming (everything I've read or seen of the man contradicts that) and then take a random shot at Alberto that was uncalled for. Why is it when I can actually watch something on TV I get stuck with these stooges. (Also enough with the Voigt worship, I like him too, but enough) /rant.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Great interview with David Millar. And I always thought Van De Velde was a pretty big guy but Millar was just a giant among those at the commentary table. Liking my sprinter picks so far. :D

And I thought the Tinkoff kit looked sharp. Shows how good Neri would have looked had they left the orange out of it. Pick up yours today.

What was the shot at Contador?

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I question if Froome will be there at the end. I think today will tell a lot though.
One thing you can't tell from watching is just how fast these guys are going and how unbelievable their conditioning.

Speaking of kit, I just bought a new and expensive set of bibs and on the first ride, crashed and tore it all up. (:.

They showed Froome and said something like the defending champion must face the 3 time winner (and showed Conti walking up the podium) then paused and said, no make that a 2 time winner because he cheated and the video rewound and showed him walking down the podium.

I know he doped but that seemed unnecessary.

Cavendish abandons at the start of Stage 2 after suffering dislocated shoulder.

Feel for him especially with all these stages in the UK to start the tour.

Tough break for his Velo owners as well who basically wasted 18 points now.

I noticed they didn't mention anything about the two admitted dopers they had in their studio I guess that was okay. It looks like they are starting to phase Phil and Paul out gradually as so far this year they go back and forth between them and Bob, Christian and the other guy in the studio which they've never done in the past Roll and whoever the studio guy is have only done the replay at night.

Tough break for Cav luckily I didn't pick him as my sprinter, surprising Nibali took the jersey I wonder how hard Astana will work to keep it.

I was going to comment about that as well that the coverage this year has been much different. It's broken things up quite nicely during the course of the race even though I think Roll is an absolute idiot.

One thing about Stage 1 that was kind of weird was having Millar and grilling him about not being selected to the team. He seemed like he was having a hard time keeping himself composed.

Great day for my team. I had 5 or 6 guys in the top 15.

That's too bad. I really think Phil and Paul are some of the best announcers in sports.

To me they are total shills, especially for Pharmstrong. I admit that they are enthusiastic, but Carlton Kirby does that better. They are very poor, especially Phil at identifying riders and often create their own narratives and say things that are blatantly false.

What's up with Purito this year?
Broke some ribs in the Ardennes, Amstel Gold I think, then crashed again in the Giro, which was his main goal for the season. His plan was an Ardennes/Giro peak then a second peak for the Vuelta. The crash at the Giro knocked him out of the race in the first couple of days. So his team sent him to the TDF to stage hunt and get form for the Vuelta.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Ignoring the confusingly weak trolling by dx...

...pretty by-the-book sprint stage yesterday as Kittel wins and Sagan does everything he needs to continue to set up what looks like an inevitable stranglehold on the green jersey.

Beyond that, have to say I'm beyond impressed with the fan turnout from the Brits. Sure there would be crowds in London today, but those crowds on the first two stages were massive in some areas. I have no idea how all those people got to some of those locations, but well done. Really liked the roads as well -- beautiful countryside and great racing roads. Someone needs to take a snapshot of stage 2 and save it for future GT reference. It was a perfectly designed stage.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Kittel has been pretty much untouchable in the sprints with Cavendish out...

Three stage wins in four days already. He certainly has been impressive.

Looking forward to tomorrow's stage on the cobbles. Hoping that my boy Niki Terpstra can come through with a big result for velogames points.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I'm really hoping that tomorrow's stage doesn't disappoint. And I hope that finale is contested by Cancellara, Chavanel, VanMarcke, and Terpstra. That would mean it was attacking.

This. Plus I want to add a single minor GC player like Talansky or the world champ to the mix.

However, I'm betting Sagan ruins the stage. Guys won't be able to drop him, so nobody will ride. Unless he makes a deal on the road where he doesn't contest the sprint in order to take the gold jersey.

For a minor GC guy, how about Kwia? Rides for a team that will be interested in making it hard and has a pedigree for pave.

And I partially agree. The stage is short and the pave isn't really Roubaix quality, they've cut sectors short and omitted the hard stuff. How great would it be seeing "Dawg" trying to get through the Trouvee? But while Sagan is a danger, Degenkolb is the bigger danger. He is a better sprinter and is certainly going to he hard to drop. Additionally, they might not be able to get rid of Kristoff OR Demare.
