Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Weirdest team I've ever put together.

Gadret
Demare
Voeckler

Contador
Konig
Bardet

Chavanel
Yates
Meersman

Overall one of the strongest but I think ultimately destined for failure.

Bardet, Moreno, Van Garderen, Kwiatkowski, Demare and Contador locked in for me. Currently have Spilak, Hernandez and Howes eating up my last 14 points but those might shuffle around. Really loving this year's route as a few stages set up for possible wins from a late break and those are so hard to predict. Route is unbelievably scenic as well.

I watched the AFA cycling classic live feed today and they interviewed the head of one of the Australian teams. Said a lot of very nice things about US CRIT racing and how competitive it was. Also said the US is becoming very big world wide because there are so many good races, and many international teams are putting more of the races on the calendar. Todays race won by UHC of course. Not your typical CRIT but fun to watch.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

I love how NBC preempted stage 1 of the Dauphine to show qualifying runs for the Montreal Grand Prix, I realize cycling is not hugely popular and is typical relegated to the after midnight time slot but qualifying runs? which they also showed earlier in the day. Wonder if tonight they will cover 1&2 or just stage 2.

edit I stand corrected it appears as if the race doesn't start until today it was just NBC cycling schedule that was screwed up.

Sounds like SKY is definitely Froome's team as Sir Bradley does not appear to be doing the Tour it will be interesting to see what team he ends up with. it's funny how much SKY has changed, originally it was supposed to be the face of British cycling and now it appears as if the two major British cyclists, Cav who has already left and Wiggo will be riding elsewhere while Sky best riders are a Kenyan and an Aussie and their top young rider is an American, Joe Dombrowski.

My hatred for sky is fairly well known but in fairness, Sir Wiggo is Belgian (if we are considering Dawg to be Kenyan) and I think that Sky's young talent is G Thomas.

Go anyone but Sky!

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Stage today was great fun. Great to see Conti back and the same with JVDB. Nibali seems to slowly be returning to form after the disastrous 1st half of the season. I think Conti drops Froome on the steep climb in a couple of days.

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Great stage in France today! Contador was in vintage form and Froome did not have it. Also the battle for the stage was fun too with the 2 Katushas cracking in sight of the line then Westra snaking by for the win before almost walking across the line and crashing into the barrier.

Great fun!

The style constrast between Contador and Froome is astounding. Not exactly new news, but love or hate either -- Contador's riding style is downright beautiful while Froome looks like a praying mantis that has a 10" carriage bolt holding his head to the stem.

You're right, though....was indeed a great stage. Never would have guessed a guy like Westra would claw back a guy like Trofimov on a finish like that. As for the GC...not a surprise Contador attacked. we all knew it was coming at some point, and I'm glad it stuck. Nice to see the Garmin guys squeak past Froome's wobbly self right at the end, too.

Most. Insane. Stage. Ever. Underway in France. 23 riders including Porte, VDB2, Talansky, Bardet, and Ryder. Attacked early and got over 3 minutes. Then Froome with the rest of SKY attacked with Contador and a few others like Koenig, Keldermerkx, and Nibali. Porte is dropping back to the counter. I have no idea what plan everyone has, but clearly they have plans.

Saxo simply doesn't have the strength and they know it. But ... TV coverage hasn't even started yet.

And now Keldermerkx and Nibali have attacked out of the Contador group (following Porte who actually dropped back only to attack). They seem to have 40-45 seconds. But Talansky is still virtual Yellow.

AND NOW CONTADOR ATTACKS!
No reaction from Froome.

...and what does it taste like?

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Kreuziger banned for blood passport irregularities from 3 years ago. Its kinda confusing, but he is out for Le Tour, which is turrible.

Kreuziger out

Re: Your 2014 EPO Free Cycling Thread

Does anyone on here use Campy gear,? and how do you like it?

Not recent, mine's probably around 2004-2005 vintage, still square taper bottom brackets, but I love it. Won't ride with anything else, at least on my Italian bikes. The fact that the brake lever and shifter are two separate levers is nice, and I really love the little button for upshifts.

Thinking about picking up a Soma Double Cross disc as a bad weather, go anywhere bike, throw some fatter tires with maybe a little tread and some fenders on it, and will probably put Veloce on it, with Centaur shift/brake levers.
