Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Lance will always be the champ for me those years. I've never considered it possible he was clean, so these shattering revelations don't bother me.

I certainly don't consider him any worse of a cheater than the rest of the guys after Lemond.

Time will tell if cycling actually tries to clean up, or if it just looks to go back to "modest" cheating.

Either way, I'll still watch.
I'll take cycling seriously again when they go after everyone else half as hard as they've gone after Armstrong, particularly the other winners close to the 1999-2005 stretch. But, I won't hold my breath.

That's OK. Following the results of the TDF isn't taking cycling seriously in the first place. Lance got busted because he was a bully and it finally caught up to him. His main opponents have all been busted for doping already.

But if you want to you can take it seriously. Here is a rundown of TDF champs around Lance:

'96 Riis - Admitted Doper.
'97 Ulrich - Suspended Doper.
'98 Pantini - Suspended Doper. Dead from drug overdose.
'99-'05 Lance.
'06 - Landis - Suspended Doper.
'07 - Contador - Suspended Doper.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

'06 Landis-title vacated, given to Oscar Periero

2010-Contador title vacated, given to Andy Schleck

Just an FYI, its seems His Yellowness has confessed to Oprah. The interview will air on Oprah's network on Thursday. Could be interesting.

Also looks like he's going to testify against a variety of people. Going to take the whole UCI house down with him, which is needed anyway, but man, what a ****show this guy is...

Lesson is: don't believe in your heroes. They probably suck just like everyone else. :(

I know, right? He's actually gonna make me watch Oprah's network!

Never liked him anyway and I'm glad he is having to deal with this. Hopefully though he does blow up the house of cards that is the UCI and a good organization takes over.

Never believed in him for a second. Anyone who ever thought this guy was/is a hero is either terribly naive or willfully ignorant. All the information on his raging level of dooshness (which is my real issue as opposed to the doping, relatively speaking) has been readily available for over a decade.

For sure. Beyond UCI, even Thom Weisel's name was getting tossed about yesterday. Would be great to see that clown take one in the teeth on this.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

I'll bet he never admits to diddly squat

He already has, to some extent. This Oprah deal was taped yesterday and airs Thursday. I expect it to be fairly sparse in details, but the real fireworks will come probably within the next year when he lets it all fly to USADA or the feds -- which he most certainly will do.

Why is he going to do that? He won liable suits against newspapers, he'll have to pay that back etc etc. I just don't see what he gains. How many clean winners of the Tour have there been in the last 20 years? only because they haven't been caught yet

Two parter now, Thurs and Fri.

He's only saying whatever he has to say so he can get reinstated and start doing triathlons again. Doubt if he feels one hint of regret or remorse, even though he'll act like he does. I'd like to know how he feels now about destroying Greg Lemond's bike line, or what he'd say to Emma O'Reilly now, after basically saying she got canned from US Postal for being a whore.

Because he is incapable of being the pariah. Just you watch. I will flat out guarantee you of this. It's actually already being rumored/reported in places, but it was a long time coming. As of about 18 months ago it was the obvious endgame here.

He doesn't. As a borderline sociopath he is incapable of it. Only regret he possesses is that it all fell apart on him -- thinks he's the victim. He's going to put on quite the show, though, and no doubt some suckers will buy it.

Should be interesting to see how it plays out. I don't see how he feels better when he is broke, maybe he has enough squirreled away that is untouchable?

I'm pretty sure it's not a two parter like most cable networks OWN repeats stuff over and over again. Showtime has shown the 60 minutes Sports with the piece with Tygart and Tyler Hamilton at least 10 times this weekend. I'll be interested to see who else he outs which is a little tough since hamilton outed so many people as cheaters in his book.

Re: Your 2012 Cycling Thread

Nope, news reports I've seen say that because Oprah spent so much time with him, and got so much, they're adding a second part to the interview.

He could take down AC. Make the clen look like child's play I bet.

It's a big complicated mess, but the crux here is that Lance will never do anything other than what's best for Lance. It would take a very long essay to explain it all, but it's quite plausible that considering the point this has gotten to, blowing the whole works open now won't cost him any more in the long run than trying to keep the act up. His team of handlers and lawyers is no group of fools (look up Mark Fabiani). His Yellowness might be a POS, but he's a smart one, and one thing he doesn't do is take action by accident.
