Yale - The best team in the country?

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

I think we should take the 58 teams, put them onto a dartboard, and have a guy throw darts blindfolded. The first one to hit gets #1.

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

krach is a worthless tool used only by those at the top to justify their ranking there.

in this case, krach says the difference between yale (1) and umd (2) is the same as the difference between north dakota (3) and rpi (15). i find that hard to believe.

it's not a linear scale, is it?

I bet it's a geographic tool. Duluth to New Haven is 1024 miles. Grand Forks to Troy is 1189 miles. That's pretty close.

It's a tool to determine how big of an asss you are. That's why Yale #1. (And by Yale I actually mean Yale fans.)

No - it's geometric. It's the ratio* between two rankings that is important, not the difference. As the numbers get bigger, the differences have to get bigger to keep the ratios in the same range.

*it's actually A/(A+B) that is important - that gives you the probability that A would beat B.

Some more wisdom from The NH Register, I can't take the pressure anymore, please make us number 2 again!

" All right - so far they've PLAYED 4 RANKED OPPONENTS.

No one in their league can touch them.

They've been ranked in the top 5 FOR TWO YEARS.

Last year, they BEAT NORTH DAKOTA in the NCAA'S & unlike mighty Wisconsin (who they dominated AT WISCONSIN IN THEIR OWN TOURNAMENT!), they didn't lose by 8 goals to BC.

They've lost exactly one game - at the end of a Western trip when they had a 3 goal lead.

All of the other top 10 schools have BAD LOSSES - Yale does not.

They are ABSOLUTELY a national championship contender - as they were last year.

Except THIS year, they're another year older.

Kenny - you have obviously NEVER seen Yale play (see last year's Badger tourney & NCAA's). Andrew Miller may be the best center in the country & Kevin Peel is faster than ANY team's defenseman going into the offensive zone.

HockeyGod - you too are completely ignorant. Union was ranked in the top 15 last year, returned the same team, and they are again this year.

Check out Inside College Hockey - this is the basis for the Pairwise Rankings, which are used to seed the NCAA's.

Guys who really KNOW hockey RESPECT Yale & they are #1.

The ONLY reason they were a #2 last year was they lost to a hot goalie (60 saves) in the ECAC tournament - otherwise, they were slated to be a 1 seed.

Give me a team - I dare you.

As I said at the end of last year, the 2 best teams are in the East - Yale & BC.

The rest of these schools (esp. the dinosaur slow teams out west) are nothing.

Go Elis! "

" Yale is a nice team. Whatever PWR, RPI, KRACH, etc says is not relevant right now - too small of a sample size. They are NOT the best team in the country. They aren't even the best team in the country with the nickname Bulldogs. But that is beside the point. Someone said that Yale is the Boise State of college hockey. False. Yale is not even the Boise State of hockey (at least Boise played Virginia Tech before getting exposed by Nevada). The ECAC is a bad league this year and is the worst of the major conferences as usual. Yale's schedule is a disaster (ranked 31st) with no major opponents from out of the conference.

Try going out to Denver twice. Or playing Miami twice. Or playing BC twice. And then play in a good league for the long haul.

Do these polls and rankings matter? No. We all know this. But seeing the Yale fans get their jollies from it is funny and seeing them get riled up by the folks who know what they are talking about (yes because INCH knows what they are talking about putting say Maine ahead of BC, clearly they know what is going on) that question Yale at #1 is enjoyable as well. Yale fans can pretend to be #1 in the country now and it's cute, but in March when they get exposed you will come back and say you knew it all along.

Yale is probably the 5th best team in New England.

I'd put them somewhere around 10-12 realistically in the country. The WCHA has 4 superior teams. Hockey East has 4 superior teams. CCHA has 2 superior teams.

When the competition ramps up in the NCAAs and the house of cards that is Yale hockey crumbles, we'll all be smiling.

Good day. "

" stop ripping on yale...they are the best team in the country right now. All these other teams play weak teams as well. Yale just beat two ranked opponents went to CC and destroyed them and earlier this year went to upstate New York and beat Cornell in a tough environemt. Go wednesday and watch them play UVM and you will see why they are number 1. Hockey East is very overrated. 2-3 solid teams in Hockey East. BU will not make the NCAA's "

That loss to Air Force was a good loss?

Clearly the kool aid is flowing in the Yale dining hall....

Re: Yale - The best team in the country?

So, will Yale ever get around to playing someone, or is it just going to be a cupcake fest to the season's end? I like cupcakes and all, but if you have too many, you get delusional.

Broc Little is no Lord Parise, that's for sure.

You are so right, I was born with an innate love for lord parise, but had to look up on some minor league web page to find this Brocly guy. At first I though he was a true sinner, and was from Canada, but alas, he is not.

It'd be funny if Holy Cross beats Yale.

Even their WJ team matchup is frosted, last year tRussians took 6th and haven't won gold since 2003. The only surprise is that Gale didn't schedule them for a weekend series instead of just the one game.

Afraid there won't be any cupcakes left for the Gophers?
