No they don't.
HE plays 27 conference games; the CCHA and WCHA play 28 conference games.
If a team does not play any games in Alaska to earn exemptions, that means HE teams can play seven non-conference games while CCHA and WCHA teams can play six.

My post was not intended as an attack, it was an observation that Yale needs to toughen up their schedule, something even some Yale posters acknowledge. Yale has had a good team the past few years. I suspect that they will continue to do so. As such the program needs to start raising the goal, as in more success at the NCAA level. The way they can do that is through experience playing tough teams in their OOC spots. If that observation offends some posters, so be it.

As for "leaving Yale fans to their thread" in case you didn't notice this is a public forum for fans of College Hockey. If Yale fans would like a thread for only Yale fans I suggest you start one that is accessible only to Yale fans. But don't sit on a public forum open to everyone and complain that other fans are commenting on it. Other fans have an interest in other teams besides their own.

BTW, when there is no news I doubt you will see many other posters post here. The release of OOC of games usually invites some discussion. I suspect when Vermont releases their OOC schedule other fans will come and post. It's the nature of the forum. Again, if you don't like that I would suggest starting your own internet arena that is for Eli's only.

That's great - and true -but it's also true that it's extremely difficult for ECAC teams to actually schedule games against some of the perennially strong programs. Like, say, the University of Minnesota for example.

I don't know if this is true, but someone had mentioned awhile back that SLU tried to schedule games (in Canton) with BU and they (for whatever reason) turned it down. I am assuming more goes into the whole scheduling thing than just schedule whomever they want. You won't find many of the big name schools traveling to Appleton to play a non-conference game. The schedules are always conflicting which leaves little open slots to fill and usually the teams with the open games are the cupcakes because nobody wants to schedule them. So I fully understand that people think that Yale needs to schedule stronger teams, which is true, but at the same point I can see where it can be difficult going by what I stated above.

Yale shouldn't have trouble with interest given their strong showing the past couple of years. However, I think one of the biggest concerns is the Ivy rule that they can't play in October. That is when most schools schedule their NC games. Let's also add that the Ivy Shootout is pretty much a waste of 2 out of 7. Granted we're ones to talk because we typically do schedule other ECAC teams for NC games (though when you have 12 available you can usually pull it off), but unless it's a special historical showcase like the Beanpot, NC games really shouldn't be used against conference opponents unless you use it as a tune-up with your travel partner and have them available (like RPI/Union and Clarkson/SLU conveniently have).

From what I hear, up until now, the problem is many of the "top programs" will only come to Yale if...

#1.) the guarantee is substantial ($15,000 +)

#3.) The game is played outside the friendly confines of Ingalls Rink (Harbor Yard)

#2.) Yale heads to the "top programs'" barn twice. (This might change now that Yale is a little more successful -e.g. B.C.)

I know that the Bridgeport Soundtigers management, who is now running Harbor Yard as of last Tuesday, is extremely interested in having Yale play a non-conference game or two at Bridgeport, per season. Due to the demand for tickets, don't be surprised if you see the BC game in Bridgeport the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's the perfect time for Yale Athletics to do it because many Yale students are still home on TG break.

Well, don't schedule the Gophers. That's stupid. They don't travel for non-con games so you'll never get a return trip. Plus they're not even good.

Stupid? Same to you, *******. I know they don't schedule return games - that's part of what makes it difficult, and it was kind of my point. They're not the only big-time hockey school to have the same scheduling philosophy. It's easy to say "Schedule better teams." It's somewhat harder to do it.

tUMD just traveled to Clarkson and they're going to Providence next year. UND traveled to Cornell last year IN JANUARY and to Harvard IN DECEMBER. So, try doing research first.

Talk about cupcake scheduling, all four of those schools tanked last year.:p

Why don't you guys just enjoy the upcoming weekend instead of worrying about such a lowly (in your eyes) program as Yale.

Sorry, LTsatch. I didn't mean to totally blow your "No one will schedule us!@11!!!!!! Wahhhhhh!" argument all to hell. Continue to pretend western teams don't have nonconference games past October and never travel east.

UMD wasn't one of the schools I was talking about. North Dakota is the exception, as I and a lot of other ECAC fans have acknowledged before. But if you want to set up some games with schools like Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, or Denver, as an ECAC school it's pretty tough.

Yes, I'm touchy today. I apologize.

Please look back in the thread and show me where I was arguing that no one will schedule Yale?
The only thing I would like you to do is to go back to the the Frozen Four threads so you can keep pretending that you have a chance to win the whole thing, feel free to come back and gloat if tMUD somehow manages that feat.

I will be far, far too busy celebrating to care about what Yale fans think, should it come to that.

Some of this problem may be mitigated with the arrival of the B10, but getting those teams to come to Connecticut will be difficult. I would imagine Yale would have more success with scheduling HE programs due to proximity.

Certainly UNO would be a possible OOC opponent. With Dean Blais there, that program will be in the top half of the WCHA more years than not.

Still mourning the end of the hockey season but last evening brought a little glimmer of light - with the UConn men winning the bball tournament I was second in the office pool.
