Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Disjointed effort tonight, too many giveaways. There is no net front presence at all. The team basically chased the puck all night. Going to be a long week of practice.

Man. LT......right on the money.
I was almost "un-inpsired" to look for comments on this performance.
They bunch up way too much, and turn over the puck so so much than in past seasons.
No cohesiveness....I truly mentioned the word, "disjointed" to my compradres as well.
Spano is on the US National JR team...so he'll be away until after Jan 1.
He looked as good as could be hoped, but taking things easy.....8 shots for......8 against w/3 GA in the first, is still the fault of the backcheck, or lack of and, IMHO, the thought that the fancier the better when attempting a pass. Keep it simple.
Senior leaders still have the mantle of '13 on their shoulders.
They need to transfer that work ethic.
Totally agree that more and more practice should be in store.
SLU is a good team, but we totally outplayed them in Per's 2 and 3........I am just mystified.
Time loves a hero.
Let's see who steps up.

Hopefully see Ruffalo and Izmirlian back in the mix sometime soon. Interesting about Spano, the team roster isn't even out yet and he was not at that tryout camp.

Thought I posted this last night but I guess it didn't update.
I wouldn't push the panic button too early. We (SLU) always love playing Yale as it will be an up tempo game and usually no monkey business. That is the style we like to play. I think the other dynamic you are ignoring is that last night you played a team that is already battle tested. That was our 10th game. It was what, your third? We have had two nationally ranked teams for Friday/Saturday tilts....Ferris State at home and Miami of Ohio on the road....we took a win from both of them and threw in a tie. Our team is very young dominated by Freshman and Soph's...but we have had 10 games and practice time to work in all the systems Coach Carvel wants them to play. You haven't had that yet.

Can't say as I agree with the outplayed statement. Don't forget we had a 3 goal lead during the third and it was clear our coach called off the dogs on offense and had them playing a defensive scheme for the third period. The mission in the third was to clog up the middle (and win the game) and make entry into the offensive zone difficult which they succeeded in doing. I wouldn't rest on the outplayed part. SLU dominated play for most of the game. They were far the hungrier team (as your coach even pointed out in his post game comments.) Also those SOG stats were questionable at best. We had a lot of high quality scoring chances. Most of Yales shots were from the perimeter and easy for Hayton to see.

PS While I love Ingalls rink. Can someone please tell your PA Announcer he has a microphone in his hand not a megaphone!! :D Man but he is irritating.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

I wouldn't take too much comfort from the Yale hasn't played many games and SLU is already battle tested maxim. Harvard and Dartmouth are both Ivy teams and had 3 and 2-point weekends on the road. The most discouraging thing about Yale's game is not so much that they only got 1 point on a home weekend; it's more that they look like they can't score at all. Past Yale teams had players that you knew could light the lamp. This Yale team looks like they had no possibility of scoring against SLU, and the two goals that were scored against Clarkson were more the fault of the goalie than skill by Yale. I know it's early but they better get it figured out quickly or this season could be over before it gets started. The next two weekends are on the road against Dartmouth, Harvard, Cornell, and Colgate.

It seems you may be right CGYF! Nice win tonight, which brought on by a patented Yale forecheck. Doherty was stellar as well as Lyon. Nice to see Alex bounce back after being pulled last week.

BTW Yale and Harvard (sucks) will be broadcasted on NESN Saturday!

Friends and peers of the late Tim Taylor have created an award that honors the former Harvard, Yale and USA Hockey coach. The Tim Taylor Cup will be presented to the most outstanding player of the annual Harvard-Yale men's hockey game played in Boston. The first presentation takes place this Saturday at the conclusion of the 7 p.m. game at Harvard's Bright-Landry Center.

Oh I hope the team feels the same way you do about Harvard. Because you guys are in for a real surprise when you see us tonight. Get ready for 60 minutes of hell.

I think this is a tremendous tribute to Taylor. I'm not old enough to remember him from his Harvard days but he certainly made an impact on your program. His influence on USA hockey was incalculable and there should be some MVP award in his name for the best USA U-18 national player. Just thinking out loud here.

Not quite hell, but a really good, hard fought, game. Nice 4 point weekend on the road for Yale.

I'm glad I have the DIRECTV sports package and could watch the game.

Yale was outplayed in both games and came away with 4 pts. So yes, a very nice and fortunate weekend for Yale.

I can see maybe Harvard had outplayed Yale, but it is pretty tough to win 4-1 when being outplayed. Lyon WAS the difference in both games, and hopefully will be for many games in the future.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Anybody know how many times Yale and Harvard can play each other this year?

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

3 times in the regular season and as many as three more times in the ECAC tourney. Add one more game in the NCAA tourney finals and there is a possibility to play each other seven times.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

The same is true of Princeton (though not likely) by the way.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

More of a sarcastic question. If you watched that awful broadcast last night they mentioned it every 2 minutes!
