Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

You guys played nearly 70 minutes of fantastic hockey. I underestimated you guys, and I think BU did, too. Great job and congrats.

Too bad - tough draw. It was like watching USA vs Russians (except this time Russians won :-). Until proven otherwise, speed & skill still resides in the East. This one could have been a Frozen Four matchup if committee didn't sacrifice bracket integrity. Oh well.

We can all be proud of this Yale team and this entire season. They gave it their all and played some great hockey.

Tough loss for Yale. Lyon was great as was the BU goalie. Congrats on a great season Yale. You proved the nay sayers wrong today that you did not belonged in this tourney.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Two weeks ago, after Yale was eliminated from the ECAC tournament against Harvard, it thought its season was over. Things broke the right way for the Eils, but most people expected Yale to just be fodder for red hot Boston University anyway.

Instead, Yale gave tournament third seed and Manchester first seed, Boston University, a run for its money.

I'd say Yale gave BU more than just a run for its money. They had the Terriers tied in knots until the middle of the third period when the game opened up. You guys didn't panic after BU scored to take the lead. I really thought your tournament experience would pay off in OT. Similar to the Minnesota game from 2013. DiChiara is going to be seeing that first period chance all alone in front of O'Connor in his nightmares for a while. Talk about a game of inches.

Yale's lack of a player, or a line, with a scoring touch was magnified this year in all the games that went to OT. It's no surprise that the top scorer for both Harvard and BU was involved in the winning goal in the last two games against Yale. It almost felt inevitable.

Plus, special dispensation (or Princeton as an opponent) was required for Yale to score more than two goals in a game

Agree, I was very impressed with the way Yale played yesterday.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

So I think I know the problem... It was in the thread title. If we'd gone to Providence we'd have been fine. But by going to Manchester we overshot by 50 miles.

Nice season overall. Allain summed it up nicely by saying the team overachieved. (Though interesting that he never said any such thing before they were eliminated.) Bring in a goal sniper or two and keep up the defensive work ethic and we'll be fine.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

This is probably going to ring hollow but along with Harvard and I believe Dartmouth, you were the only team to keep Eichel off the scoresheet this season until OT. His shot came from out by the blue line, not where he likes to operate. Again, it is a really small thing but it speaks to your ability to shut down high end talent.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Just recovering from seeing that OT goal from about 15 feet away. Great game by Yale, just not enough to overcome a BU's talent and some poor officiating. Gonna close this one up and start the off season thread.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Former Yale players Brian O'Neill and Sean Backman were big factors in the Manchester Monarchs sweep tonight of the Hartford Wolfpack and have moved on the the AHL playoff finals. Good luck to them
