Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Really stinks that ECAC parity hurts us in the PWR. Even Q is not assured doe to their poor and weak OOC schedule. We could be a 1 bid league.

Agreed. Chance for 2 if 1 of Harvard/Yale/Q makes it to championship without issues but loses to another. I don't see any real chance of 3 this year.

Yale or Colgate could sneak in with Q and an Autobid (us😉). It's too early to be honest. H or Q could still make it with a sweep next weekend and a Beapot win for H. I think it will come down to the Tourney results and 3 is what I hope for.

Issue with 3 is that assuming the ECAC AQ goes to a team outside top 14, then any other conference foes need to be in top 14 to make at-large. AHA participant will be outside the 16 seeds. That's why I'm very hesitant to hope Harvard or Yale can stick around for an at-large. QU can probably survive with just a trip to Lake Placid.

All these possibilities give me a headache. We may have to win the tournament to qualify.

Remember that the Pairwise changed in 2013-14 and removed the 'record vs. TUC'
Given just how weak our schedule was this year, anyone care to guess where we would presently stand in Pairwise ranking with the system used just a couple years ago?

Really easy to do with CHN's Pairwise customization tool. Yale would be #21 with 9 comparison wins (old RPI of .5323, 6-5-2 record vs. TUCs). In fact, Yale is the team that benefits most from the new system, being the only team to jump 6 spots. For the curious, Merrimack is the team that suffers the most, dropping 6 spots from 24th to 30th. Vermont and Harvard would have been in tournament positions at 15th and 13th, respectively, but under the new system are on the outside looking in.

EDIT: Looks like I spent too long typing! :p

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Anybody know what happened to Anthony Day this year? He was banged up early in the year, but never heard anything about a season ending injury?
Is Weberg injured or just unable to crack the lineup?

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Day had a serious lower body injury and is close to being in game shape, Weberg had some issues from a hit to the head, not sure about his status.

Frustrating. I'm sick of ties (especially at home) and I'm tired of only scoring 2 goals in most games.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Cannot overstate importance of tonights game.
Win and we win the Ivy Championship (Yale presently 7-2-0, Dartmouth has finished Ivy 7-2-1).
A win will further also boost our win % and assuming we win both playoff games and the ECAC quarterfinal we should make NCAAs (will have great win percentage which will help RPI/Pariwise).
A loss or a tie and we will fall further in Pairwise and it would appear that anything short of a ECAC championship and we will fail to make NCAAs.

Time to see what this team is made of. While I came away from both ties vs. QU thinking we should have one, I left last nights name thinking we got somewhat lucky to manage the tie.

While I do think Colgate had a bit of an edge territorially last night, they did only score off unforced errors by the Yale D. That being said, tonight's game is big for all the reasons you mentioned.

They also have to stop blindly throwing the puck along the wall on clearing attempts. I could count the number of times on two hands that they did that last night. The two giveaways were horrible and the difference in the game. I have to go back and look at the hit on DiChiara, he was obviously injured and I was very surprised he stayed in the game. Hopefully a bad bruise.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Did not see the game, had a family affair to attend, but got home with about 10 minutes left and Yale up 3-0. Looking forward to hearing what everyone thought. Based on shots on goal, it looks like Yale dominated.

My question is, can this team win in the upcoming tournament(s) without a power play?

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Very strong performance by Yale tonight vs. typical Cornell team (big, hard hitting, undisciplined, and offensively challenged).

Yes, this team can win the ECAC tourney. But first lest focus on just getting to Lake Placid.

And congrats to Yale on their IVY LEAGUE championship.

Re: Yale Hockey 2014-2015. 138 miles to the ultimate goal.

Second chippy game in a row with Yale being the opportunistic team this time. As shown by the score sheet, Yales depth was the difference in the game. Cornell seems to rely too much on the first line and it showed as the game wore on. The first period was like the Colgate game never ended, Yale came out flying and earned a nice goal by Izmirlian, but by the end of the period Cornell was holding the puck deep in Yales zone and forechecking with effect. The wind seemed to come out of cornells sails after a beautiful pick pocket play by Ruffalo who somehow stripped Ryan of the puck as he was wheeling around his own net AND put it by the goalie in the same motion, great play. Cornell started gooning it up after that and seemed to be content to hit rather than try and make a play. Yale played their best period in the third and it was nice to see DiChiara get an assist from his wicked shot off Gilliams mask. I hate to say it, but the power play was even worse tonight.
