Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Regarding the defense, both Young and Otto were healthy and played on Dec 29th vs the Russian Touring Team. One or the other should be able to play Friday in place of Jaskowiak.

Otto's not a d man, though. I would love to see Young--he looked good before his injury.

Yes, I forgot Otto's a forward now. Has the kid played an official game yet?

It would be nice to see Young back in the lineup on Friday.

Not sure of his status now, but Young was hurt after the Russian game again, same injury I believe and the talk in Ingalls was that it was pretty serious.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

What about Peltz for Friday night? He looked good with the limited action during the game against the Russian team.

As to last weekend, let me echo all of the comments about Saturday night. Keith definitely gave the boys the "dare to be great" speech, because they came roaring out and never looked back.

My seats are about five rows up (row G) behind the Yale bench. I saw the late hit on Trentowski and it was ridiculous. Keith could not believe that went unpunished. And hence Jasko now must miss a game.

I am a little concerned about this weekend, but if they boys play like Saturday, I will rest easy.

We need a defenseman before we activate a forward. That is why Young was activated, hopefully he can stay healthy for the stretch run and spell the starting D-Men. He played well in his limited action this year, he also has chronic upper extremity injury problems since before Yale, lets hope he is through that spell. From what I have heard through the grapevine that if there is a list of forwards to be activated, Peltz would be the last. I agree that he looked good against the Russians, but Yale is too deep at forward to see Peltz anytime soon.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

If we see Peltz on the ice at all the rest of the year we are in big trouble. Right now it seems as though Allain is going back and forth between Balch and big 'toine as the the last foward. Each has been playing one game a weekend. If they needed another foward after that it would probably be Bourbonais, who has looked pretty good when he has played. Plus if Anderson can get healthy, none of them will see the ice.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Not a broken arm. He had a severe dislocation of the left shoulder, which had been surgically repaired when he was younger without any ill effects in his last year of HS. It was dislocated in the Brown game, and after several weeks of rehab he was cleared to play. Then, after the Russian game, when he looked to be ready to play against Brown that weekend, it dislocate again in practice and will certainly require surgery after the season. I heard he was cleared again to play this weekend but it appears to be touch and go.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Does anyone know if the Clarkson game is available on internet feed. I have been unable to find a link for that.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Did anybody see in Chip Malafronte's column in the register the other day that Yale is going to play Sacred Heart next November at Harbor Yard? That should be fun!

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Hopefully SH ups it's quality of play, they are in a serious down cycle this year. Any exposure is good exposure in CT, I would have loved to have seen Yale play in the outdoor setting at Rentschlar Field, if they continue the outdoor stuff next year maybe they can get on board with it, kind of tough during the conference schedule though.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

USCHO weekly ECAC column says Yale has secured home ice advantage in first round of the ECAC tournament at least; Yale tix office sent me confirmation that they had charged me for my ECAC tourney tickets for the second weekend at the Whale. I'm assuming that means that at this point we're a bye for the first weekend regardless of how the final 6 games go? Has anyone calculated the likely matchups, Bracketology-style?

Yale is not assured of a first round bye yet, just home ice for its first playoff series. I'm sure someone can figure out how many more points are needed for a first round bye. Then we can worry about potential matchups.

You don't have a bye clinched yet, but you can't finish lower than 7th place, which is why you're guaranteed at least 2 home games in March. But, a sweep this weekend, along with some help from RPI / Union / Dartmouth would secure a bye. If you're interested, I've started this thread (most recent post here) which allows you to see the range of possible finishes for each team, as well as a couple of sentences on some of the more bizarre placements that can still happen.

If the season ended today, then Yale would play the lowest-seeded team that advances through the first round. Barring any upsets, that would be Clarkson (after beating Brown).

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

According to this page Yale's magic number to clinch a second round home series is 3. As burgie12 correctly notes, this accounts for wins only -- accounting for ties makes it tough. In addition as this page points out, Yale can advance as high as the fifth spot guaranteed after Friday. This page will be updated after Friday's games.
