Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Maybe it isn't about being number one specifically but something about having Yale ahead of North Dakota has really irked a number of your fans. If BC were number one and North Dakota were two there would probably be less complaining. I suspect if Yale were two and North Dakota were three then the whining would return.

As you say and as was illustrated on another thread last month, the team that is ranked number one in December rarely wins the title. If this is the case and you claim that titles are more important than rankings it raises the question: Why get so worked up about polls in January?

I don't get worked up about polls in January. They are useless.

Saying that, when there are three dozen threads about how Yale is the greatest thing since sliced bread...well, that's where I like to step in. It is an internet forum after all.

Mr. Sioux 23... I get it. I really do. But you guys have to understand that Yale hockey fans are in a hopefully permanent, but probably temporary, zone of euphoria. As a faithful follower of Yale hockey for thirty years, you have to understand how new this is for us. And wonderful. So there's no amount of "come now, wait until you've actually accomplished something" that's going to work on us in the least. When you've never accomplished anything (other than a game last year you went to forget) everything looks great. Ignore the threads. Let us bask in our i gnorance. We're happy. Is that really so intolerable? You have plenty of time to gloat later when we fail. And, maybe, just maybe, we won't. That's what's got us psyched. And this is really directed to goon, not you.

If I was a better person perhaps I could do that :p:D:D

I don't think that Yale is terrible. I just simply won't believe that they are the best until they prove it in April. You have a good thing going, and are definitely a team worthy of respect and capable of winning when it matters. If it makes you feel any better, I said/thought the same things when SCSU jumped out to some great starts ~10 years ago, and when even teams like Minnesota have jumped out to great starts. Saying that, I'd love for nothing more than for Yale and UND to meet up in the title game in April.

That's great but my comment wasn't directed specifically at you.

I'd say the reaction to Yale's ranking has far outweighed the cheerleading by their own supporters.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

I will try to get the thread back on it's original purpose, the Yale hockey team. Not htier best performance today, i was at the game and thought that they played down to Brown's level for the first two periods, although out shooting them by a wide margain , alot of the shots were indirect. Clemente was excellent for Brown, but the third period told the tale and Yale finally just wore Brown out. They decided to start forechecking in Browns zone behind the net instead of on the half boards and the team speed for three sustained periods was just too much. Rondeau played well, both Brown goals were the result of defensemens mistakes. The goal by Harry Z of Brown was highlight reel stuff.

-- 1st --
Brown 1st - 07:00 Juola, Michael (Zaires, Chris & Fratkin, Jesse)
Yale 1st - 09:02 Little, Broc (Limbert, Kevin)
Yale 1st - 18:21 Bourbonais, Clinton (Agostino, Kenny)
-- 2nd --
Brown 2nd - 09:10 SH - Zolnierczyk, Harry (Robertson, Dennis)
-- 3rd --
Yale 3rd - 02:21 PP - Miller, Andrew (Cahill, Chris & Agostino, Kenny)
Yale 3rd - 06:25 PP - O'Neill, Brian (Cahill, Chris & Miller, Andrew)
Yale 3rd - 17:34 EN - Balch, Josh (Ziegler, Chad & Mason, Brendan) Open net goal

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

Just got back home from the Whale. A couple of observations. One, I've been to scores of Yale games, but I don't think I've ever seen more fans in the Whale than this afternoon. The box score says 3500, which is stated capacity, but an usher told me he thought they had sold 1000 standing room tickets. The place was seriously noisy, too. I have also never seen more kids in the two student sections at the Yale offensive end of the rink. The band was also there in full force. It was pretty impressive.

The game itself was great, too. I've said before and I'll say again, Yale has a big bull's eye on its back and everyone is going to be "up" to play them. No matter what kind of season you are having, no matter what kind of post-season prospects you've got, how can you not get up for an opportunity to knock off the top ranked team in the country? And the longer Yale's winning streak goes, and the longer they are top ranked, the more they'll have to deal with some tightness. It makes for excellent atmosphere and when Brown scored first goal this afternoon the intensity just doubled.

The truth is: Yale is a very very good team. They are fast, they are very well-conditioned, they cycle and cycle and they just wear you down. Brown played the best they could and kept it close for two periods (2-2 at the end of the second) notwithstanding being out shot 2 to 1. But Yale's relentless attack wore Brown down and the dam broke in the third period. You have to believe Keith is telling them to never give up, never let down, to turn the temperature higher and higher and challenge the opponent to stay with them. I think very few teams will be able to do this but I think the games down the stretch will be wonderful to watch as everybody draws a bead on that bull's eye. It is and it will be a season to remember.

VERY well said, Eph! Notwithstanding their hordes of detractors, all this team does is line up every night and beat the team they face. Congrats to Brown on a gritty effort. They have a bright future!

What I'd like to know is...........what was the greatest thing before sliced bread??????

Yale is interesting. They are an awesome team, and I love the way they play. They are as entertaining to watch as any team in the country. I love their speed, their skill, their intensity, and also their DEFENSIVE fundamentals, which people seem to overlook. But I have to be honest in saying that they need to play SOMEBODY. I believe they are a Frozen Four caliber team, maybe more, but I want to see them play some stronger teams. They have a great record, but have played a weak schedule. I DO realize that they are frequently blowing these teams out, which they deserve credit for. Yale fans need to understand, though, that the questioning is fair as long as it is within reason. I think some of the Yale detractors have not seen them play, and just like to run their mouths. But Yale fans also need to realize that it is not as if the Bulldogs are playing a WCHA or HEA schedule.

On a side note, I am extremely proud of the fact that Air Force handed them their only loss so far, and it was a great game to see in person. The bulls-eye thing didn't get to Air Force in the least. AFA didn't give a **** that Yale was a top 5 team. They simply came out and played hockey with their signature work ethic and intensity.

Re: Yale Hockey 2010-2011 thread

BU thought they'd walk thru Brown too, (both times).

Brown 4, Yale* 1

You can remove your Yale* asterik now OM

“The NCAA has confirmed the process and due diligence of Yale University and the Ivy League establishing the eligibility of Chris Cahill. He remains eligible to compete in all Yale hockey games.”

Thanks GoBlue78 for putting the Eli fans' collective sense of wonderment so well. And kudos to our TEAM for another great game. Good luck in Providence!

I would really like to see what Yale would do if they actually played a schedule that had some teeth to it... Just because the Writers at USCHO, INCH and CHN say that Yale is legit doesn't make it so... Beating C.C. also doesn’t proves anything because your team went out and lost to AFA the next night. I guarantee that if Yale played the schedule that UND, DU, UMD and C.C. on a weekly basis for that matter they wouldn't be sitting at 15-1. I would bet my house on it. Also, last year means nothing and you will need to win something first till you become worthy of praise.

What are you going to say when your team goes one and done?

If it happens we will probably be muttering the same thing NoDak did walking out of Worcester last year. You guys would not praise Yale even if they went all the way, it's not in your character. I never thought I would come across fans with more of a superiority complex than New York Yankee fans, but you guys take the cake.

Here is my exact quote after the game last year...Reply #530 to the "Yale Hockey 2010" thread.

I just want to say congratulations to Yale. You guys played well, and beat a very good North Dakota squad. Best of luck in the rest of the tournament. :)

I'm such an *******. :p:D:D

Because our team actually has won something other than an NCAA tourney game. :) That's why I said 7 > 0... Also, Your fans come across a lot like the SCSU fans when Minnesota actually used to be good and they used to be referred to as Jan Brady State University. I am telling you don't expect WCHA fans to pump up your tires. Win something first then we will talk...
