Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I don't see Harvard winning tomorrow. Underdog teams usually need to sweep or they're toast...like Yale last year against Harvard in round 2

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

A pretty good PWR day. A Denver loss tomorrow would flip that comparison (actually, it might not, but Yale and Denver would be essentially tied in RPI. Whoever is ahead has the comparison. SiouxSports projects a 0.0004 lead for Yale if Denver loses) and (I think) put Yale in 9th, at least for the moment. I've looked at SLU vs. Brown for ComOpp comparisons and while there are some interesting issues, it doesn't seem to make any difference as long as we win.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Dartmouth beat Harvard in Game 3, 6-3, so it will be SLU at The Whale next weekend. I'm glad. This will be a better series than Brown would have been and a more artistic series also as SLU wants to skate, not clutch and grab.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Looking forward to our matchup next weekend. I've always thought SLU/Yale games were some of the most entertaining, exciting hockey games the league has. Nothing would surprise me out of this series, be it a convincing sweep for either team, or 3 tight 1 goal games. Wish I was still up that way and able to make the series, always enjoyed going to games at the whale.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Looking forward to an exciting series with the Saints this weekend. Forwards # 10 Greg Carey (51 points, 28 goals) and # 16 Kyle Flanagan (47 points, 15 goals) come to Ingalls #1 and 3 respectively in Men's Division 1 scoring. George Hughes #15, leads Division 1 defensemen with 36 points in 36 games.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Hi all, it appears I'll be making the trip down to New Haven to take in the Yale/SLU games. Just wondering where some of the good pre and post game hot spots are. I've been to Archie Moore's a few times and always enjoyed things. Any other suggestions?

Agree completely CGYF; I expressed similar thoughts yesterday on the SLU thread.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I think the last time SLU came to Ingalls for a playoff series, Rich Peverly scored in overtime to win the series for SLU.

I like both teams so I am neutral on this series but as always seems to be the case for Yale, if they get good goaltending they will win, and if they don't they won't

The Yorkside Inn is a very popular place; great food, reasonable prices and very popular with Yale players and their families !!! It's on York St. Parking on York is VERY difficult on weekends, so Grove Street is a MUCH better choice. Stay away from Toad's..... unless you're looking for trouble, in which case you're likely to find it !!!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

Spaceman: You might consider giving Bar a try -- 254 Crown Street. Storemade beers, excellent pizza, and about a 15 minute walk (or two minute drive) to the rink. Parking is generally the biggest problem, but there's a pay lot across the street where you can keep your car if you decide to hoof it there and back.

I have to say, while this will be a better looking series than one with Brown would have been, SLU makes me very nervous. Carey and Flanagan can win 2 out of 3 on their own, and Weninger is a solid goaltender. This matchup has me flashing back to the 2011 QF series (where SLU handed Yale their only home loss of the season in game 1), and even further back to the Houdini act in 1998. Two wins will be hard to come by this weekend...

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

If you liked Archie Moores, another pub within walking distance is Anna Liffeys near Grove and Whitney, true irish pub atmosphere, it may be very crowded due to St. Patty's week. I believe I am pre-gaming at Mory's on Friday on York St. Can be crowded before games, excellent food. Give me a shout if you want to stop in there, it is a club that requires a member ( I am one) to be present.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I forgot about St. Patrick's week in New Haven. If true, that could make Bar a no-go.

I marched in the parade yesterday, it was quite the chit show in the Crown St. area. Kind of like Mardis Gras on a Sunday morning. Hopefully those festivities wore down the amateurs and they will return home. Hopefully we do well and don't have to worry about a St. Patricks Day game.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey - 2012-2013

I've done some more looking, and I'm pleased to announce that it is possible (although not very likely) for Yale to make the tournament with a 2-1 loss to SLU. The "chalk" result with a 2-1 Yale loss has them in 14th. It might even be possible with a 2-0 loss, but VERY unlikely. That drops them to 17th.

I like the "chalk" scenario, but I think this year has great potential for some conference tourney autobid upsets. I am worried we may see as many as two or three upsets.
