Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Princeton did pull their goalie twice, which made sense given the score. Yale certainly didn't "need" a goal last night, so I was surprised when Allain pulled Malcolm.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I was at the game and actually missed that, the box score shows a 5 second stretch where Malcolm was not in goal, could that have been when he went off while a ref had his arm in the air for a Princeton penalty? The box showed he played for 59.55.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Watching on Yale All Acess not as good as "live at Ingalls" but we have looked sloppy at times and painfully inconsistent. I just remind myself that Yale graduated NINE seniors and it's going to take some time for the 2011-12 squad to gel. By the way Red was tinkering with the defensive line combos -- I'd say he's still looking for the right formula.

That's correct.

The CHS box score shows that Malcolm was pulled at 58:22 for 5 seconds. A penalty was assessed to Sdao at 58:27.

The reason I missed it was because I left at 57:00,

I picked up Harvard away tickets for Jan. 27 today, still a pretty good stack at the Yale ticket office, the Harvard website is virtually sold out except for a few in the corners and standing room. Gonna do an overnight with my wife, should be fun.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Time for that long bus ride to the north country, just checking out the ECAC score prediction thread and most of the pundits give the edge to Yale over Clarkson and have SLU and Yale about even. It will be interesting to see if the bad blood from last years games with SLU carries over to this year. I think we can take four points if the Yale "A" game shows up. Not sure about the status of Otto, Ruffalo had a good game against Princeton and may deserve some more time IMO.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

I just got an email from Yale Athletics saying that tonight's game has been moved o Sunday due to weather.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Heck, I mistakenly looked at the womens score and for about four hours had thought Yale had lost 7-1. Nice comeback to salvage at least one point. From the penalty stats it looks like we have let bygones be bygones. The final weeks of the ECAC will be very interesting as the top teams are very close point wise. It could be the ECAC's worst year in recent memory as far as the NCAA tourney goes. But, playing devils advocate, it is the type of year for a wildcard to emerge from the ECAC tourney. ALOT of parity this year.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Watched Clarkson tv feed and it was frustrating to witness the off-night of the officiating crew and our Yale boys losing their cool. Linesman were continually out of position --in one case creating a 2 on 1 for the Golden Knights by blocking the Yale defenseman out and in another case completely missing a pick on one of our D to create a 2 on 1 that resulted in a goal. The Yale bench was clearly irate and their badgering of the officials led to an OT winner for Clarkson. Note to the officials: we don't pay to watch you!

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Disappointing trip up north, they need to sweep at home to establish any last shred of their former selves.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

That really stinks about Otto, concussions in hockey are now a major issue, a good friends son who might have had a Division One future took one hard hit the other day and will never play another game of competitive hockey due to his concussion, I am so glad that these things are being diagnosed, but imagine how many went unnoticed over the years and how many players will now try to avoid the trainers and docs just to keep playing. It can be such a viscous sport.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Very disappointing game tonight. Its becoming apparent that Yale has one line that is a credible threat to score. The lack of offensive balance is putting too much pressure on the Miller-O'Neill-Agostino line and causing them to try to be too fine with the puck, rather than simply get pucks to the net. I am stunned at Yale's inability to carry the puck into the offensive end, much less sustain possession and put pressure on the opposing defense. I thought the first goal given up by Maricic was soft, but he settled down and made some very good saves after that. Union's goalie Grosenick is very good, but Yale never truly tested him. Not sure where the team goes from here. I noted Coach Allain's comments this week about how well the team was practicing and he expected good things to come from that. That may yet be true, but Union looked to be much the better team tonight.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Cornellgrad, I do agree about the one line. Bourbonais, Lags, and Ruffolo (or balch) have been able to create a lot of offense lately and throughout the season but are way to inconsistent, and they just did not bring it tonight. I thought the same could be said for Yale as a team as they had spurts where Union could not do anything but then at times they looked awful. I thought their Defense was pretty good tonight. The first goal 5 on 5 was very soft, then they scored a shorthanded goal and a PP goal, but the 5 on 5 chances were very limited for Union. Yale just needs to find a way to score more goals outside the PP and that first line.

The silver lining I would say is that Union and Cornell are running away with the league and should be in the final four in Atlantic City, and Yale is not far off. They were by no means dominated tonight and I thought they were in the game even though I personally thought they did not play well tonight.

Re: Yale Bulldogs Hockey 2011 -2012

Allain is a fascinating study. He says he's giving #2 goalie a shot to stir things up. Then when the kid surrenders a soft goal in first period he pulls him, reportedly yells at him on bench, then sends him back in 43 seconds later.
So he's a former goalie and respected enough in coaching circles to have been coach of us @ world juniors.
But after the ncaa meltdown #1 v bc and the seemingly endless goalie questions dogging the bulldogs one wonders if he has been given hall pass when it comes to recruiting and managing the position he should know best. he seems to take a lot of liberties in his handling of goalies and the results he gets are often not good.

Alec Richards? Ryan Rondeau? Jeff Malcolm's numbers are solid...he's started every game. The one season Yale "struggled" at the position, they still came within a game of the Frozen Four. Seems he's doing just fine managing his goalies.

Nothing reportedly about it. He pulled Maricic and dressed him down pretty good. It's one thing to go after the refs when things don't go your way but what he did to that kid last night was uncalled for IMHO, especially when Maricic was making his first start and only his 3rd(?) appearance of the season.
