Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

Through my sources, the new assistants that were with PC saw Hart play and were no longer interested in him...

Well at least they didn't make him languish for a year like the Renoufs. Hope the kid works out for Yale, you never know.

The Renoufs redshirted this past year so they get 4 years of eligibility left according to this UAA press release. I'm happy for them that they transferred as there was no guarantee they even see the ice in the upcoming season.

2014-15 Awards Handed Out at Banquet

Apr 24, 2015
Lyon Takes Team MVP

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's hockey team wrapped up its 2014-15 business while honoring its seven seniors at tonight's team banquet held inside Widdy's Restaurant at the Course at Yale.

In addition to the team, over 100 people were seated for the dinner including family, friends, alumni, season ticket holders and support staff.

Many of the folks who assist in the operations of the program were thanked by Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach, who also spoke about the 2014-15 accomplishments and the senior class.

The Yale Hockey Association Awards were handed out to members of the squad by associate head coach Dan Muse, assistant coach Jason Guerriero, association member Paul Farren '66 and Yale Sports Publicity Director Steve Conn, who later introduced each senior and provided non-statistical anecdotal information on each Bulldog.

Sophomore goalie Alex Lyon, who led the nation in goals against, save percentage and shutouts, took home the J. Murray Murdoch Award as Yale's most valuable player. One of the guys in front of him who provided much of the help in stopping teams from scoring was junior Rob O'Gara, who for the second consecutive year earned the John Poinier Award for the best defensive player.

The award for "sportsmanship, spirit and ability" went to sophomore Frankie DiChiara, who led the Bulldogs with 23 points.

The winner of the David C. Noyes Award for "determination, grit and courage" was junior forward Carson Cooper, Yale's top faceoff man who had a career-best 19 points this season.

Sophomore goalie Patrick Spano took the Yale Hockey Coaches Award for contributing to team morale.

There are many Bulldogs producing on the ice and in the class room, but only one could take the top team honor. The Edward M. Wright, MD Award for athletic and academic accomplishments went to junior defenseman Mitch Witek, who has a 3.63 GPA as an economics major.

Ryan Hitchcock led all newcomers in points and assists this season. It made sense that he was given the Martin Dwyer III Award as the freshman MVP.

Handing over the torch to the new captain is also a ritual on this night. Tommy Fallen spoke about his experience and what it mean to him before introducing the new leader, fellow blueliner Witek.

Yale Hockey Association Awards

Martin Dwyer III Award- Presented by the YHA to the most outstanding first-year player of the Yale hockey team.– Ryan Hitchcock '18 (Manhassett, NY)

John Poinier Award- Presented by the YHA to the best defensive player on the Yale hockey team – Rob O'Gara '16 (Nesconset, NY)

Yale Hockey Coaches Award- Presented to that member of the Yale Hockey team whose determination and desire have contributed most to team morale and the spirit of hockey at Yale – Patrick Spano '17 (Montreal, Que.)

David C. Noyes III Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team whose performance and attitude has most inspired his teammates through determination, grit and courage. – Carson Cooper '16 (Bow Island, AB)

J. Murray Murdoch Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team deemed the most valuable player. – Alex Lyon '17 (Baudette, Minn.)

Edward M. Wright, M.D. Award- For athletic and academic accomplishments, leadership and dedication to the higher purposes of intercollegiate athletics. This award is based equally on two factors: success on the ice and success in the classroom. – Mitch Witek '16 (Downers Grove, Ill.)

Malcom G. Chace Award- Presented by the YHA to that member of the Yale hockey team who, through sportsmanship, spirit, and ability, has best served the finest traditions of Yale hockey as exemplified by Malcom G. Chace. – Frankie DiChiara '17 (Ronkonkoma, NY)

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

I don't think Sweezey is attending Yale in the fall. Curtis and Walsh were listed as the incoming defenseman this fall(new haven register.) I'm assuming he will play juniors next season.

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

College Hockey inc has him as 15-16. I'll look into it.

All you had to do was click back one page on this thread, Heisenberg has also updated his list to concur with this report below from Chip Malafronte, the only college hockey reporter in New Haven.

http://nhrcollegehockey.blogspot.com/

While Yale's roster featured seven seniors this past winter, only three, Tommy Fallen, Matt Killian and Trent Ruffolo, were regulars in the lineup. A broken fibula sidelined Anthony Day until the ECAC playoffs. Nico Weberg and Alex Ward combined to play just 11 games before injuries ended their seasons. Goaltender Connor Wilson saw no action, stuck behind the best goaltender in the country.

The Bulldogs will replenish with seven recruits. Four forwards, two defensemen and a goalie will fill the holes left by the departed (Killian arrived as a defensemen, but transitioned to forward.)

Here's the new class.

FORWARDS

Andrew Gaus, Wexford, Pa., 2/23/95 (age 20), 6-1, 180, RW, Cedar Rapids (USHL): Has 14 goals and 18 assists in 58 games for Cedar Rapids, now competing in the USHL playoffs. Prepped at Taft and led the team in scoring twice. Chose Yale over Harvard.

Joe Snively, Herndon, Va., 1/1/96 (age 19), 5-8, 160, C/LW, Sioux City (USHL): His 27 goals, 37 assists and 64 points was tied for fourth in the USHL this season. Extensive international experience. Won gold at the Under-19 Junior-A Challenge in Saskatoon in December; bronze at the Junior Club World Cup in Ufa, Russia last summer. Made the U.S. Under-18 Selects team that played in the Hlinka tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 2013. Team MVP at South Kent in 2012. Chose Yale over Harvard, Providence, Boston College and New Hampshire.

Ted Hart, Cumberland, Maine, 2/20/96 (age 19), 5-11, 172, C/RW, Phillips Exeter Academy: All-New England pick after scoring 24 goals and 24 assists this season. Exeter went 24-4-2 and were the top-seed heading into the playoffs before being upset. Older brother Brian played at Harvard this season and was a second-round pick of Tampa Bay. Another brother, Kevin, played at Providence and is currently in the ECHL. Ted was originally committed to Providence. Maine and New Hampshire had also shown interest.

J.M. Piotrowski, Naperville, Ill., 5/1/95 (age 20), 6-2, 180, Sioux Falls (USHL): Well-traveled Junior career includes stops with the Chicago Fury, Dallas Junior Stars, Wichita Wildcats and Fargo Force prior to this winter. Began the season in Bismarck. Combined for 14 goals, 10 assists in 58 games, with 120 penalty minutes.

DEFENSEMEN

Anthony Walsh, Burr Ridge, Ill., 9/21/95 (age 20), 5-10, 180, Sioux City (USHL): Two goals and nine assists between Green Bay and Sioux City this season.

Charlie Curti, Mound, Minn., 5/24/95 (age 20), 5-11, 192, Cedar Rapids (USHL): Five goals, 19 assists this season. Won gold at Under-19 World Junior-A Challenge in Saskatoon in December.

GOALTENDER

Sam Tucker, Wilton, Conn., 4/16/96 (age 19), 6-2, 175, Choate: Four year starter put up impressive numbers during his prep school career. Named all-league. Led Choate in wins and trip to New England semifinals. Won USA Hockey U-18 national championship with Hartford Junior Wolfpack earlier this month in Buffalo, a team coached by ex-Quinnipiac skater Scott Robson and Doug Messier, father of Mark Messier.

Yale beats Harvard in endowment returns, Harvard pulls away an asset?

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

@usahockey: Get your game-worn Team USA jerseys from Men's Worlds through @NHL Auctions! Bid here: http://bit.ly/1cWgQKe

Thought I would pass this on to you guys. Lyon's jersey is at a fairly reasonable price, IMO. Would make a neat part of a collection.

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

Unfortunately they should be calling Lyon's jersey "practice worn"

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

You can also cross Cam Dineen off the list, moved on to junior hockey. Tough week for Yale recruit wise. Some are blaming it on Dan Muse departure.
