Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

Re: Yale Bulldogs 2015 Off Season thread- Lyon in wait

This has been my experience at Ingalls. The Rail definitely is the place to see the game.

Unless you can sit right on the glass in the student section on the goal line. See the entire rink through one pane of glass so there's no distortion anywhere. It's the best.

2015-16 schedule

http://www.yalebulldogs.com/sports/m-hockey/2015-16/releases/2015072112kyzh

There are a dozen home regular-season games this winter. The first is Nov. 20 against the Big Red of Cornell, but many area sports fans probably have Dec. 11 circled on their calendars. That's when Boston University comes to the Whale for the first time since 2001 in a rematch of last March's NCAA Northeast Regional overtime opener.

The aspect of the new schedule that can't be confirmed has to do with the first Desert Hockey Classic hosted by new Division I program Arizona State. The games will be played on the weekend of Jan. 8-10 and include Michigan Tech, Connecticut and the Sun Devils. The Gila River Arena in Glendale is the proposed site, and the plan is for Friday games featuring Michigan Tech-UConn and Yale-Arizona followed by Sunday consolation and championship contests. The site has yet to be confirmed.

Re: 2015-16 schedule

As far as replacing Ingalls goes, I think you are barking up the wrong tree. Megabucks were spent in the upgrade of team and local facilities, while still retaining the historic structure and atmosphere. My season tickets are in the top row on the attacking blue line. I don't think there is a better seat in the house. Only six seats in the row as well. If you wan't to spend some worthy time convincing an ECAC team to upgrade, have Union upgrade that fire trap that they play in.

qft.

It's almost embarrassing having that rink represent our conference nationally.

I did notice an anomaly in 5-6 February (Harvard-Dartmouth). Were those swapped? Because what you list here is the same thing Brown has listed.

Re: 2015-16 schedule

If it's supposed to be in that direction, so be it, but can we confirm for sure that Harvard will be February 6th? Harvard typically re-schedules the Saturday games that occur before the Beanpot.

Why does Harvard have to reschedule? Why schedule a Saturday game before the Beanpot in the first place?

It's not Harvard themselves that schedule that; the league is the one that schedules the non-travel-partner games. They typically don't take the Beanpot into account. Harvard typically re-schedules those upon agreement with the other team, although last year was an exception as they did not re-schedule Brown.

Before we went to having exams before Christmas, we typically had to play two games prior to the opening round of the Beanpot coming right out of exams. It was a real disadvantage playing the HE schools that were already playing in January. I believe we petitioned the league to allow us one game prior to the Beanpot and one game between tournament games and that has carried over even though we now finish first semester before Christmas. Usually means splitting up two series against ECAC foes.

OK, but why do you need to "reschedule"; shouldn't all this have been taken into account when the schedule was made?

Probably because there isn't a good reason to not have those travel partners (both Harvard AND Dartmouth) play over two full weekends when you have to take final exams into consideration on top of that; it's easier to put the games in and have Harvard head up the re-scheudling later, assuming they are able to do so (obviously Brown declined last year, leaving Harvard stuck with two games before the Beanpot). Final exams is a perfectly sound reason to not play, hence why Quinnipiac has NC games during Princeton's finals week in late January, and RPI has NC games during Union's finals the week before Thanksgiving. In the year before last, along with the year before that, they tried to make one of the Beanpot weekends a "bye week" for Harvard/Dartmouth, and they did use the Friday to fill one of their conference games between each other, as the league does not schedule the travel partner home/home. However, unless it's a regular final exam, which is mandated to be off by the NCAA, they try to cycle around the bye weeks to make it fair for all teams in the league.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The distinction for the Bulldogs having the longest 2014-15 season goes to Sean Backman '10 and Brian O'Neill '12, who helped the Manchester Monarchs win the American Hockey League Championship last weekend.

More from Brian O'Neill

http://www.nhregister.com/sports/20150622/former-yale-star-brian-oneill-an-ahl-mvp-calder-cup-champion

Not long after his Manchester Monarchs hoisted the Calder Cup as champions of the American Hockey League, Brian O’Neill was presented with an interesting hypothetical question from Charles Brockett, an old Yale hockey classmate.

If O’Neill could travel back in time and win a national championship with Yale at the expense of his Calder Cup, would he do it?

Answering the question is almost as impossible as the scenario.

“At college, you have this whole community and support staff that has been with you for four years, and that’s what makes it special,” O’Neill said. “With the Calder Cup, it’s kind of the same thing, but there’s a completely different feel. Both are extremely hard to win. The Calder Cup playoffs are so long, with so many ups and downs, compared to the NCAAs, which is one and done and almost makes it more difficult to win.”

Just in case anyone missed the email, season ticket renewals are now happening for existing season ticket holders only. There will also be a special presale for season ticket holders who need extra single game tickets for next season in September.

Harvard released, and will not be moving the Saturday game before the second Beanpot weekend. The schedule released by the ECAC, in terms of that game, remains correct.
