World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

Good bye Cristiano Ronaldo.
Does this mean we can really stop talking about him with a GOAT reference? Messi and Mbappe are way past him, and Kane could even pass him this cup. He only won one WC, right? Just like Messi and Mbappe.

Looking at the scoring list is interesting- Just Fontaine played in a single WC, and scored 13 goals in 1958- an astonishing 2.17 goals per game. Make Christian look pretty minor. Imagine how many goals he could have scored with 15 appearances. He's at least be past 20 or 25.

Portugal have never won the World Cup.

In the CR7 era Portugal finished 4th in 2006, got to the QF in 2022, R16 in 2010, 2018 and 2026 and got grouped (by the US) in 2014.

Wonder what they'll talk about on the pregame show on Fox. Can't wait to not watch.

It is a testament to how much I dislike Lalas that I'm not watching despite the presence of Rebecca Lowe, who does a fantastic job on the Premier League on NBC.

When do the media rights for 2030 get announced? And how much do we have to bribe FIFA to make sure Fox doesn't win them?

Oh, I thought he won once. So why such adoration for him? He does score often, but lots of other players have scored at a higher rate.

Anyway, saw him at Michigan Stadium- and he got on the field for the last 20 min or so. Didn't do much. Big let down for the promotion of the friendly.

We are a nation of Hamlets.

YouGov live poll of the US

Do you think FIFA was right or wrong to suspend the one-game ban of U.S. striker Folarin Balogun, allowing him to play against Belgium in the World Cup?
Right: 20%
Wrong: 23%
Not Sure: 56%

If you think Lalas won’t be following wherever the rights go to, you are very naive.

Guess I won't be wearing my Pepi jersey tonight after all.

Fuck that bullshit, play him, have Balo score a hat trick and tell the Euros to suck a dick.

There’s no World Cup winning country in history that hasn’t greased the wheels in their favor at one point. This is part of the game.

I’ll say it again: They’re only upset because it’s benefiting us.
You are only excusing this because it is benefiting us.

What excuse? FIFA screwed the pooch, and there's a means to correct it. So they did.

Why is that such a big deal?

If there were no means to correct the mistake, then he wouldn't play. But there is, and the US group applied for it, showed where they instant replay was used incorrectly, which then made the suspension incorrect.

This is FIFA, there is no high ground to worry about. They let thousands building stadiums die so they could make money. Why is letting one player get his suspension turned over such a big deal?

Just saw a CBC article showing the FIFA president and dumpy are buds. Makes me wonder if he was at Epstein island. Would fit the corruption of FIFA.
