World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

But it's not cheating. It was "cheating" that he got a red card in the first place. The appeal was to correct that mistake.

No it was a shitty call he got the red card. Shitty calls are part of the sport.

The appeal was fine. Diaper Dumbo calling his partner in crime wasn't.

You can't fight the fasc except when they give you a cherry sundae.

And now FIFA will get every European to stay up late to watch the game because of this huuuuuuuge injustice. It is almost like this is an entertainment industry.

Who benefits from this?

Any win by the USMNT tonight will have a giant asterisk next to it.
The Belgians are even more motivated.
For the past three days Poch and the American team have been preparing as if Balogun wouldn't be ready. Then 24 hours before the match he suddenly is?
The same holds true for Belgium. They had planned to face a USMNT without Balogun and now he's in the lineup.
And no, don't say this is the same as a player recovering from an injury because you know it's not.
Balogun can score as many goals and play as many games as he wants and he will always be THAT guy.
Ricardo Pepi now knows that no one has any faith in him whatsoever and people are willing to do whatever it takes to keep him from playing, Must do wonders for his confidence. Well, I guess it's a good thing that confidence isn't that important for a striker.

So...who benefits from this? Oh right...

FIFA have just announced that the 1986 World Cup has been stripped from Argentina and awarded to England after VAR concludes that Maradona illegally handled the ball.

Faux would if they make it into the next round.

But I also don't get the angst.

We have video replay to make sure the call is correct, right? And tons of people complain that it's take the fun out of the game, even though those same fans complaining about the calls are one huge reason why video replay is now there.

So why is it bad to appeal when that video replay is used incorrectly that it gets appealed to be the right call? I honestly don't understand that.

FIFA is way, way, way, way beyond worrying about the appearance of corruption- they made their bed and have to deal with that appearance. And, oddly, don't really think that the orange moron has the mental capacity to do anything. Let alone the brilliant minds that are surrounding him. FIFA are the ones who make this look so incredibly corrupt because they were so corrupt to give him some kind of meaningless recognition. They have to clean this up on their onw.

Planned from the start? ;)

But the Euro fans don't give a shit about the US. Is Belgium must see TV for you?

This all could’ve been avoided if FIFA had an actual appeal process.

Actually, it wouldn’t matter if there was an appeal process. The Euros would still be having the same complaints.

Also, FIFA is plenty corrupt all their own without any help from Dump. A strong showing from the USMNT only benefits CONCACAF and the game as a whole. America, China, and India are the last three "big audience, lots of whales" markets where soccer isn't #1.

This is actually part of this whole conversation. UEFA and the major Euro countries are legitimately worried about growing American influence in the game. To them, the Americans are just supposed to shut up and give them their cash. To UEFA and the Euros, the Americans are not supposed have a say in how the game is run.

When I think of the victims on the global stage the US is the first that comes to mind.

I love ya, son, but you sound like Dump. "They've treated us very unfairly..."

3rd try: We're all rooting for the US for probably the only time in history so I'll leave it there.

I believe the red card was wrong. Full stop. Changing the suspension should have happened. If you are FIFA who thrives on controversy, then you allow the world's supervillan to take credit for something he didn't do while boosting your viewership.

Howard Stern effect. Gotta give them some good old hate watching. Or did we all watch England-Mexico because we love them?

Not relevant to what I have been saying.
Bullshit. It’s absolutely relevant. You talk about wanting to win “fairly”, I’m telling you no such thing exists.

Even if there wasn’t this suspension BS, they’d find something else to complain about (they were already doing it about the bracket) and say how everything is “tainted”.

Take even a surface glance at the history of the game and you’ll see how much the Euros want to have all the power in the game. It isn’t just the US that gets shafted, it’s the rest of the world too. This is just another battle against European hegemony of the game.

Water breaks. Fans are noting that they are not being uses as breaks to hydrate but as breaks to make adjustments. Which isn't supposed to be part of the game.

So the system is already there to be complained about because the games are being hosted in the US, where some of the games should have hydration breaks- but the application is to all of the games.
