This happens during the Olympics as well. Unless the stadium naming sponsor also happens to be an official sponsor of the IOC or in this case, FIFA.

Trolls and bigots are going to exist wherever you go. Gender and skin color have always been a useful tool to separate "us" from "them" and all of your problems are because of "them." Soccer is not exempt. Your life isn't perfect because Union have a female coach. You can believe that and act on it, or do some hard work improving your life, reflecting on your own decisions and beliefs, and focus on becoming a better person.

Which do you think is more appealing?

I mean, it’s not that surprising. It wouldn’t be surprising in pretty much any European country, outside of maybe Norway and Sweden.

This is a sport that is the dominant cultural pillar of these countries and it’s a sport that has a terrible history of sexism and misogyny that goes into this century, especially in Europe.

Think about how sexist and misogynistic the US is, then realize that the US has been one of the leading progressive countries in women’s soccer.

Mayor Mamdani announced that each borough in NYC will host free fan events for the World Cup. They were originally planned to require admission but he got those fees waived.
 
Vancouver rejected a FIFA request for Gianni Infantino to get "pope level" treatment at the World Cup, including a motorcade with blocked off streets so he could get around the city nonstop. The security budget is still "undisclosed" but the estimate for the 2010 Olympics was $300 million and wound up 3x that. There's a reason they are trying to keep the 2026 number under wraps.

What's the story with FIFA wanting refs at the World Cup wanting to crack down on players covering their mouth when confronting other players/officials? What happened to warrant that behavior getting an instant Red?

Not J, but I believe it stems from an incident in La Liga. A player covered his mouth and said something to Vini Jr. Mbappe and Bellingham heard it and you can see them react. They said it was racist, the player in question said it wasn't. No microphones picked it up and video is useless because he covered his mouth.

Pretty much this and a couple of similar incidents. No idea how it’s actually going to be enforced though.
 
Michael Jackson appointed interim manager at Burnley. The club also announced that all patrons 10 and under get free admission and will receive a private tour of the grounds by MJ himself after the match.
