World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

Also, prior to the 2018 Cup, pots were assigned, outside of Pot 1 which has always been seeded teams, by Confederation and not rankings. For example in 2014 the pots were:

Pot 1 (Seeded Teams): Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Switzerland
Pot 2 (Africa and CONMEBOL): Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Chile, Ecuador
Pot 3 (CONCACAF and Asia): Australia, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, US
Pot 4 (UEFA): Bosnia, Croatia, England, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia

Then a random team (Italy) was drawn from Pot 4 and put into Pot 2.

Which is how you got groups like Germany (ranked #2), Portugal (14), Ghana (23), and US (13) vs Belgium (5), Algeria (32), Russia (19), South Korea (56).

They finally switch to pots based solely on rankings (outside of the hosts) in 2018.

Is that why there's not really any true Group of Death anymore?

The draw is supposed to start at noon eastern time. So with all the festivities and the lengthy explanation of procedures, the first ball being drawn by 1pm would seem optimistic.

"This is soccer's premier event, a spectacle that only happens every four years. Who should we get to promote it? Stars from past American teams like Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey or Alexi Lalas?"

'No, I have a better idea.'

Not even an Abby Wambach or Mia Hamm.

This smells of Fox’s BS.

I can see it now: Brady excitedly sucking up to Dump, Gretz wobbling around, slurring every other word, Shaq incoherently yelling about rings, and Aaron Judge just standing there smiling, wondering what he’s done with his life.

They have Lalas and Carli Lloyd on staff at Fox Sports. I think Donovan, too. Dempsey? Howard is at NBC and Keller at ESPN, but there are options besides highlighting the Big 4 North American sports. Was Beckham too busy?

Beckham has an excuse as Inter Miami, the club he “owns”, is hosting MLS Cup tomorrow.

Sadly they know their audience.

The US watch parties are... sedate.

I love that somebody in the Comments on the YouTube feed keeps slamming Scientology.

I have a stupid question. When the EPL table lists form in the prior 5 games, is the most recent game on the left or the right?

Also, when did BHA and CP get good?! When did Liverpool start sucking?

Nice to see Fulham and the Islanders in the same relative spot of mediocrity. And I note I cursed Spurs when I adopted them.
