World Soccer XXXI: Golden Generation?

Inter Miami pulls off the upset, beating Porto (currently 18th in UEFA’s club rankings) 2-1.

It’s the first time ever a UEFA has been beaten in regulation by a non-European team at the Club World Cup.
It looks like Man U lost to Vasco de Gama 3-1 in the very first CWC.

Outside of that, it doesn't seem like the most surprising stat given most years of the CWC the format was for the UEFA champ to go right to the semis, so it was essentially the #1 team in the world only needing to play two matches.

Seattle loses to Atletico Madrid 3-1.

A respectable showing against a big European club but... *sigh* it's frustrating to see the obvious holes in the Seattle lineup (like an actual forward) and be unhappy with an ownership and management who refuse to do anything about it.

PSG, whose last two matches were the 5-0 demolition of Inter in the Champions League Final and the 4-0 opening win over Atletico Madrid, has lost to South American Champions Botafogo of Brazil 1-0.

Another day at the Club World Cup, another Brazilian team beating a European giant.

Flamengo beats Chelsea 3-1.

Seattle finishes without a point after losing 2-0 to PSG.

On one hand, boo they lost all three games. On the other hand, they didn’t get embarrassed in a ridiculously tough group.

Also a Brazilian team finally lost as Atletico Madrid beat Botafogo though Botafogo still advanced.

My brother went to the game. Despite a very good crowd, he still bought his ticket secondhand for about 25% below face value.

Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2 due to their financial mismanagement, they’re €175 million in debt with nowhere near enough revenue to match.

the Bundesliga Team Holsten Kiel is apparently playing MN next week and the local German American Institute is having a meet and greet.

Can’t say I know anything about holsten

Haven't watched much of the CWC since there's usually only been one game on TV each day, but PSG is running it up on Miami right now. 4-0 at the end of the first.

Best team in the world versus a team that spent all their money on aging stars who don’t play defense.

What could go wrong?

PSG's second goal was from stealing it literally off a defenders foot as he freaked out about someone being in front of him.
Miami hasn’t been particularly great defensively in MLS (Messi can usually bail them out), against PSG it was always going to be bad.

Seattle looking a lot better only giving up two to PSG.

Canada coach Jesse Marsch after being eliminated by Guatemala:
“If I’m honest, we’re missing half of our group, that’s not an excuse."

Jesse Marsch two weeks ago:
"Not one guy called me and said, 'Coach, I don't know, it's been a long year, maybe I don't come to the Gold Cup.' Not one guy. Not even close to that conversation."

Fluminense beats Inter Milan 2-0 and there’ll be two Brazilian teams in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup.

USA vs Mexico in the Gold Cup final after both teams survived semifinals to Guatemala and Honduras respectively.

The CWC is getting the matchups FIFA was aiming for in two of the quarters. PSG vs Bayern and Real vs Dortmund. Palmeiras vs Chelsea is another good one.

And then there's Al-Hilal vs Fluminense.
