I only saw one replay but the ball looked clearly to have gone over the endline for one of Japan's goals.

I have yet to see a camera angle that shows this definitively. Everything is at a bad angle. No one has come up with a down-the-line (which is truly insane they don't have the tech to find the ball on the end lines given they can create 3D representations of farking armpits in real time) shot that shows it over or staying in.

Fox studio crew handling this really well.

Edit: Oooh, I didn't catch the AR flag. Now we have controversy. If that flag was up, an explanation needs to be given.

I’ve yet to see anything either that shows clearly out. Remember, if any part of the ball is on any part of the line then it’s still in. The call on the field was out so there should be some angle that will show the ball in play.

Found out the Japanese player who scored the winning goal today plays in Germany.

He's about to enter the next game like this.

Whether you argue in or out has there ever been a smaller margin deciding such a huge result?

From my almost perfectly biased POV, I think the GKs should be given quite a bit of latitude on making saves within the penalty area. If he's diving and there's no malicious attempt at the player, I don't think that contact should be a penalty. I'm just not a fan of that.

If the GK makes no attempt at the ball or intentionally trips the player after the ball is through (by lifting a leg or grabbing a leg) then yes. But this was incidental contact.

Edit: And he saved it. What a terrible and easily readable attempt. That GK read him like a book and even i knew where he was going from my monitor. Good.
This was the Uruguay-Ghana game.

I’m confused how offsides was lifted when that player was clearly in front of the goalie.

Unless they’re saying because he made the save it couldn’t have been obstructing.

That was also one of the worst PKs I’ve ever seen.
