Julie Foudy is a lousy commentator. She's just one big cheerleader.

Welcome to network coverage of all American sports.

It was great to pick up the Canuck broadcasts of the Olympics when I lived upstate. Not because they were any less homers, but just because the Canadian team had so many fewer athletes fewer events were ruined.

All US broadcasters should be shot into the sun -- it's wall to wall Starship Troopers.

Edit: holy shit, I just googled Foudy. She is the identical twin of my sister! Srsly, our Mom* would be fooled.

* Granted, our Mom is 95 and might be fooled by a cardboard cut out of Gabe Kaplan.

I would like to know more.

Oh, I know. I'm not naive. It's just more irritating than normal sometimes...

Yeah, one winter Olympics we spent a weekend at Winterlude in Ottawa. It was great watching their coverage (especially watching Cherry try to explain why the US hockey team just beat Canada for the gold medal). My brother in Detroit would always pick up the Canadian broadcast from Windsor for the Olympics. Apparently, most people in Detroit do that.

Has anyone ever suggested that offsides be interpretative like pass interference (i.e., "did not affect the outcome of the play")?

That's already in the rulebook. If someone is offsides, but the play is not to them, it doesn't get called. All these calls were made correctly -- the person in an offsides position was the one who received the ball directly.

I think he means like, if you’re offsides by six inches, but you had momentum and would’ve had advantage if you were onside, it would be ignored. Which I don’t think would ever happen, there would be far too much subjectivity.
