Re: World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Minnesota United beats Portland in the semifinals of the US Open Cup and will face Atlanta in the final.

MNUFC, you beat Portland, that makes you winners in my book.

Re: World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Spurs host Villa tomorrow.

Can anybody tell me anything about Villa?

But before that, can anybody tell me anything about my new team?

I know we used to play at White Hart Lane in North London, we have a fairly inconsequential kit, I have to hate Arsenal but they're usually better than we are, we never win The Big Match, and something something about Jews. That's it.

Essentially, I have found the Footy Mets.

This is the last moment I will not know even one player on my squad.

Edit, OK I looked at the roster. Here are the players I have heard of:

3 - Danny Rose. I remember him because of the Woody Allen movie and because he was once the "young kid who should be given a chance" on the England team

5 - Jan Vertonghen. I swear to God this guy played on Fulham once but all Belgians look the same

10 - Harry Kane. Isn't he about 40 years old? Anyway, I remember him scoring lots of goals.

23 - Christian Eriksen. He shares my birthday. I also thought this was the name of a player on the US women's team. Anyway, he's familiar somehow. The Cottagers again, maybe?

28 - Tanguy Ndombele. If this is the guy I remember he was a stud in Ligue 1. If it is he must have cost a lot of money.

I have a hunch Newcastle will play well enough to avoid regulation, but that's about it.

Oh goody, another season of Just Happy To Be Here at St. James' Park.

Newcastle is the closest EPL team to Scotland so when we go I'm probably going to go there. I had front row seats behind the net last April but the doctor grounded me 4 days before our trip. :(

Re: World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Spurs off a nice comeback/wear down of Villa will get their as-skicking out of the way at MC this Saturday.

538 has it as .12 .19 .70 and I think that's generous to us.

Re: World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Sounders announce new members of ownership group including Russell Wilson, Ciara, Macklemore, and a bunch of Microsoft folks including CEO Satya Nadella.

So a bunch of celebrities and tech bros buy a sports team, big whoop right? Well yeah that’s true.

The interesting thing in this is twofold: a) the original majority owner Joe Roth sold his stake to this group plus some to majority owner Adrian Hanauer (who owned the old USL Sounders previously) and b) the group was brought together to prevent a California based private equity group from buying the team.
Adrian and I talked on the phone a few days later, and soon after we met for coffee on the back deck of his house. There he shared that his partner, Joe Roth, was considering selling his equity in the Seattle Sounders — and that a California investment group was being very aggressive in getting a deal done. This investment group was making creative offers to buy out more than just Joe to try and take control of the team. (Later, Ben Haggerty aka Macklemore would describe the situation perfectly “I don’t know these California guys… but I know these California guys. We need to own this team in Seattle.”) I told Adrian that morning that I wanted to work in partnership with him to find a solution.

Fascinating to see the “f- that, you’re not taking this team” reaction in comparison to something like the Sonics.

I'm sure the Sonics situation is a big reason this happen...I'm sure the Sonics situation would have played out differently if say the Seahawks left...

Re: World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Bah. City scores in extra time to go up 3-2 on Tottenham. We nearly stole a point there.

VAR: NO GOAL! Handball on the set up. Still 2-2.

And final. Man City will not go 38-0-0.

And Newcastle lost to Norwich City. Not sure how good Norwich actually is, but they were better than the Magpies today.

For reference, because I’m sure there’s controversy on it, Law 12:
gains possession/control of the ball after it has touched their hand/arm and then:
• scores in the opponents’ goal
• creates a goal-scoring opportunity
