World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

Holy shot. I just read the athletic article that spawned this mess. That makes the Reynas look absolute terrible. It's pretty clear that Berhalter was trying to protect Gio's reputation by saying it was an injury. Reynas and Wynalda for some reason were offended that he lied. Which is baffling. What should he have said? "Your son is a ****ing sourpuss and we almost flew him home because he has a **** attitude"

Like, obviously not. They're just ****ed that he didn't get to play. But he's an adult and it sounds like his teammates were upset with him as well.

The Reynas and Wynalda come out looking awful in this and now I'm even more upset at them than for just the blackmail alone.

I obviously want Gio to play, but not if he's an entitled doosh that's a cancer in the locker room. Go play somewhere else.
If you read the ESPN article they claim Claudio was sending messages to Earnie Stewart (US Soccer's Technical Director) and Brian McBride (the USMNT GM) about Gio's playing time during the World Cup.

What amazes me is that people are using that to make the leap that Stewart and McBride should be fired.

I have absolutely no loyalty one way or the other with Berhalter, but I've absolutely soured on the Reynas and that entire family should be banned from all future USMNT positions, on the pitch or off. They're all vipers. It hurts to lose Gio but better that than risk the damage that family could cause long term.

Oh I agree about Gio and his family. Though I think the damage has already been done.

At this point, who would want to manage the USMNT, especially if Gio is still involved? Certainly not anyone that would satisfy the vocal portion of the fanbase.

The #USMNT and r/ussoccer stans are now saying the Reyna situation is completely the fault of US Soccer for hiring former players into the positions of power (none of this would’ve happened if they didn’t engage in “nepotism”) and that a total house cleaning of US Soccer is in order.

This is, of course, four years after they spent years complaining that US Soccer was being run by business people and needed a total house cleaning.

Soccer seems to suffer from the most online fanbase

Talk about stepping in sh*t.

I don't care how badly you try to backtrack your remarks, you simply can't recover from that.

(Note, this is not a commentary on France sticking with Deschamps. At this time, that is probably the right move. It's the complete dissing of Zidane which makes no sense at all and was never necessary.)
It's France and soccer, they can't go a month without doing something stupid, let alone have the Americans stealing the stupidity spotlight.

Fairy tales can come true... Dan Burn was born and grew up in Blyth, nearby Newcastle. He adored United and idolized Adam Shearer. He was working at a supermarket when a scout saw him playing a semipro game and signed him to a professional contract at age 16. Because of his height he was a centre back rather than a striker. After playing for Fulham, Wigan and Brighton he finally got his dream when he signed for Newcastle United in January of 2022. He just scored his first goal for the club in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals against Leicester and the roar from St James Park could probably be heard in London.

Fulham earn a 2-1 win over Chelsea. The victory lifts Fulham to #6 in the EPL. The loss leaves Chelsea in 10th, but all the way up to fifth if you only count Premier League teams based in London!

Without Mitrovic. First Cottager win over Chelsea in 17 years.

Club World Cup draw was today. Seattle will play the winner of Auckland City v Al Ahly, with the winner of that match playing Real Madrid.

As much as I’d love Seattle to do well, it’s going to be difficult playing in preseason with barely a month of training trying to beat potentially one of the best teams in Africa in the middle of their season.

Is the Club WC played during the midweek throughout Winter/Early Spring?

No, it’s being played in Morocco next month, February 1st to the 11th.

It’s only seven teams playing in it, the six confederational champions plus the winners of the hosts league. This year is weird because a) a Moroccan team won the African Champions League so the runners up (Al-Ahly of Egypt) are in the “host” spot and b) the Asian Champions League isn’t completed yet (the East Asian half is done with Urawa Red Diamonds in the final but the Western half hasn’t been finished) so Al-Hilal was “nominated” by the AFC.
